Have searched & searched for it, but cannot find the thread from a while ago about having steels widened. Don't necisarily want the actual thread just any contact numbers that were posted up of companies who can do the job.

Aaargh! I can't find it either! I think it was Rmad who gave the details of a place that widens wheels / turns the centres around etc...

Doing it yourself is, but I think if you go to someone qualified in that sort of thing who can balance them etc, then that's legal, it's just the home-made jobs that are dodgy. I think!

Banding wheels is illegal, re-rimming them isn't (ie. welding the centre into a wider rim from another source). In the US companies like www.wheelvintiques.com and www.stocktonwheel.com perform such a service, but in the UK there are no such specialist services in the UK, although I suspect it isn't beyond the skills of a good engineer. Bob Knight (VW specialist) has done it and offered the service in the past - you should be able to locate him via the www.volkszone.co.uk forums.
