Ive decided to sell my Rover 220GSi, to free up some funds to spend on my Escort.
I'm using it to go to London on Sunday 24th, and after that it's going on Ebay (unless someone on here wants it)
Brief spec -
118K on the clock
Taxed until end of May
MOT until September 7th 2008
Leccy windows, mirrors, sunroof.
Half leather seats
Standard 15" alloy wheels with legal 185-55 tyres
Factory-fit alarm and immobiliser
It has a couple of modifications, a stainless (i think) DTM back box, which was on the car when i brought it, and its been lowered on G-Max springs and dampers, ive also fitted a Laguna splitter to the front valance.
The engine has replaced about a year ago with a 60K engine out of a later 'bubble shape' 420 (no proof of mileage). Engine was replaced as a valve seat broke up and dropped down the side of the piston, causing the engine to seize.
I recently fitted a new water pump, and the cat was replaced about 6K ago. Has also had a replacement alternator since ive owned it.
Bodywork is very good for a 14 year old Rover, the only rust in the car is a small patch infront of the rear wheel arches - shown in the pictures below. There is a couple of v.small car park dings, but you'd not notice them unless they're pointed out. The rear side skirt/ spat thingys were missing when i brought the car, i have bought a replacement pair, but they're blue so will need painting.
Interior is also very good. The seats are in great condition, the only downers are a tear in the carpet in the drivers footwell, and the glove box lid is broken - it will stay up but needs to be fiddled, i think one of the hinges is broken. Also the parcel shelf is missing - i think its in the loft, but couldnt find it last time i looked.
The car drives nicely, but does have a couple of issues - the near side CV is clicking, and the gearbox is noisey. The noise disappears when you depress the clutch. However, it doesnt affect the drive, and hasn't got any worse in the last six months of use. Also, the starter motor occasionally sticks.
The electrics all work, except the remote locking only works the passenger door. You can hear the motor whirring in the drivers door, so i think the plastic teeth on the motor (?) have stripped. Should be a simple fix, but one i have never got around to doing, as it doesnt really bother me. Obviously the drivers door can be unlocked with the key.
Overall its a good example of a relatively rare 90s hot hatch, and with a bit of work would make a great car. I myself don't have the time to sort the car out, with my Chevette recently finished, and my Escort coming along nicely.
I also have a few spares/upgrades i will be selling seperately, including a rebuilt 620 Turbo LSD gearbox (cost me 200quid), and a big brake kit consisting of 620ti calipers and MG ZR180 disccs. Also have a boss for a Momo steering wheel, and a meshed front grille. These arent included with the car, but i expect a deal could be sorted out.
Heres some pics -
I'm looking for offers around £500. I live in Exmouth, Devon (EX8 postcode), or car can be viewed mon-fri at my work on Sowton ind. estate, just off J30 on the M5 (EX2 postcode)
PM me on here for any more info, or to arrange a viewing.
Rich.
