Okay I'm currently writing up a Frequently Ask Questions section for when the website is live. One of the sections deals with good starter classics/retro cars. I'm inclinded towards suggesting cars that have les chance of being complete rotboxes, but arn't going to be super expensive. So basically starter classics. Any suggestions, my list is blank at the moment, most of my affordable cars are italian,.. and we all know how they like to rot

Starter classics then? Hmm I suppose rust is less of an issue if there are plenty about and lots of parts available. So Minis, Beetles maybe, Morris Minors, that sort of thing perhaps?
late 70s stuff might be OK - plenty of tidy Mantas about, old shark nosed 5-series (I can never remember the E-number for the one after the E12), Capris, Chevettes maybe?
That sort of thing?

Yeah thats the kind of thing,.. also thinking of keeping price down a bit as well,.. so anything a little less desirable but with potential.

If you look for the slightly unfashionable stuff then your money will buy you a better base. Or get a 'nearly-classic', something still in 'old banger' territory now but with a few tricks could stand out.
eg. Unfashionable: Viva Hunter Triumph 2000/2500 Victor Marina '02/E21 BMW Herald
Nearly Classic: Fiesta 1/2 Honda Prelude Polo Datsun Sunny/Cherry Micra Cortina Mk4/5 Skoda Coupe Skoda Favorit

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

Reliant Scimitar is great, they do turn up for reasonable money, they are probably at the top of the starter classic price range, but fibreglass = less rust

My wife's uncle has got one he wants to sell - I think it's a MKII GTE.
He had it professionally restored about 8 years ago, and has not seen the lime light sinse!

And they do rust underneath. Usually outriggers but don't get the idea that you can put the mig up for sale. I still miss it - big lazy cruiser that could go accelerate fast enough to scare me silly - had a mildly reworked engine - uprated head plus manifold plus K&N's and decent exhaust - tremendous fun blipping the throttle if the car in front was dawdling at a junction. Only downside was the fuel consumption - our local garage had a promotion giving away tokens to collect glasses with - they used to give me the glasses instead! If I do get another it's going to get the Cosworth headed 2.9 stuffed in there at the very least - and something to try and make it handle a bit better might be nice. All iron engine at the front + rear wheel drive + greasy roundabout = straight through or sideways - or maybe I'm just rubbish with RWD.
