I know a lot of you Retro-Riders also use various other marque-specific forums like VZI and stuff... just wondering what you make of them? I got really fed up with the Mercedes forums - I was a member of the Mercedes Club for a while, and the forum is handy for tech queries etc, but to be honest I got bored just talking about Mercs as I like so many other cars! Plus a lot of them weren't very keen on modding . And they had a thing for COMAND sat nav CDs - every other bleedin' post was about the thing! RR is the only forum I regularly use - I think if I had a VW or a Ford I'd probably use a specific forum aswell as RR, but there's too much snobbery in Mercedes circles and I can't be bothered with all that! ;D

i must say the VW forums i visit are VERY social indeed. VZi, Volks Torque, 80-90, etc.
i used to do most of the mini forums but got sick of them TBH, same questions from kids, same stuff for sale doing the rounds and the same arseholes getting my back up on a regular basis.
in the end i gave away my mini and my spares collection.

I like them, can be a really useful way of getting information, help, even buying good cars. Downside is that most of them are pretty blinkered about other marques. Each time I get a new car I try to find a forum on it. Only one that I haven't been able to find a good one for is Jaguar. Oh and modding isn't everyones cup of tea so you should expect some critics - especially when you see some of the abortions that the chav brigade exhibit. Comand Sat Navs - is this where you command the wife to sit next to you and read the map?

I've only experience of the brickboard which is great for tech, clubvolvo which is full of modders and the Volvoclub site which is OK(ish) but a bit under populated.
See other post for a great reccommendation tho'

I occasionally look at VZi, ClubGTi, Miniclassic but there is so little variation in topics compared to here.
I love Minis but they do you head in after a while, the biggest folder in my picture archive in in fact Opel and that's because of this place ;D

Trouble with one make clubs/forums is they tend to take themselves a bit too seriously - nothing off topic etc. And if you mention stuff about having fun or (horror of horrors) breaking a speed limit or two - or even worse enjoy a pint or two at a club event, they accuse you of bringing the club into disrepute. Been there, done that.
curse word to those who get offended by my behaviour. I'm only responsible to me.... and I like a laugh (I'm 34 going on 19).
That's why I like it here ;D I'm still around on the Imp-based forums, though...

Just cos something is good for you doesn't mean its good for everyone - for example Marmite does not make good Dog Food.

Comand Sat Navs - is this where you command the wife to sit next to you and read the map? ;D ;D ;D I must say I trawl other forums for info on my projects - there's a great article on Turbo Bricks about turbocharging NA Volvo engines - a lot of the info can be transferred to other makes and stuff. Been using Toyota Supra forums too, for info on the Turbocharger. I don't like to join them though, as I know I won't be a regular user, and it ain't really on just to ask a couple of questions and then curse word off... most of the info is already on the pages I've found. Hotrodders Bulletin Board is a MASSIVE source of info - they're very US focused but the amount of knowledge on that site is amazing. However obscure the query is, there'll be someone on there that's done it / doing it / knows someone who's done it!

I think it's more about the attitude of the people on the forum. RR is so good because of the interesting, informed, and sociable people on it. Some forums are more challenged in this respect, I imagine (I don't visit), that some of the more "can I fit 75inch wheels to a metro forums are a reral pain!
The CPUK forum is good (plug plug) as the people know Peugeots and it is supported by a real world club. I think meeting everyone from here at teh RR show will be good for the forum. Unless there are any punch ups!!!

I'm getting round to registering on most of those myself ! After having Mondeos for many years, I used to frequent fordmondeo.org which used to be great. Seems to have gone downhill like contour.org did in early 04. I stick with mainly vw sites now for inspiration and I'll be on the volvo forums for tech help in the future. To be honest I like here the most as the cross section of users is great ;D

I use Miniclassic
I've got people I get on with but christ are there a lot of dicks on there. Anything Mini that hasn't got a chrome coil cover and a pratty name like 'Twinkle' isn't part of the crew.
To illustrate how sad some mini owners actually are, Basically, different members of a well known forum pretend to be their cars, no I'm not joking.
"My owner washed me and berty today, the soap suds got me that horny I spilt some oil out of my driveshaft seal."
Honestly though, you would cringe and some of the curse word they put down. I would paste a load here but it won't allow me to log on.

I regularly read VZi and the SSVC forums, VZI is the most sociable one I know of, full of people having fun whilst the SSVC is a bit more serious. But this is the one I frequent the most and post the most on. I find it more interesting here and the wealth of knowledge available is second to none. The one marque forums do have there place though.

All of the above. I (used) to frequent a couple lists more than now. I even moderate one of them. The forum that grew out of them is awkward to get around.
(And still a little narrow)

I use the Club GTI forum quite a lot. Also use a few Polo forums like porka.net, uk-polos.net & a forum for a company called Pitstop Developments who specialise in supercharged VW tuning.
Club GTI has a lot of good knowledge on it but also plenty of badge-snobbery. porka.net has more banter & off topic subjects than threads about Polos sometimes! Some people hate it because of that but I don't mind it.

It's all the same on there: fitting 13" wheels chrome dress up kits fitting a Citreon Xantia clock and fitting Rover Metro wheels with the wrong PCD. Get a life and use your cars properly!! I am always here... I do occasionally visit www.e30zone.com, but the moderators are a bit fascistic - if you ain't one of their best buddies then you get slapped down for all manner of stuff. And the "tech" side of things can be a bit irritating too - alot of people will give you some very suspect advice! There's some really nice guys on there, but there are far too manny arrogant tosspieces for me to stand it very long... I go on VZi occasionally (under various pseuds), but that's mostly just to stir it a bit. Winding up so-called "groovy" trust-fund rich kids on there is an absolute joy! The other forum I regularly visit is MWF's top-notch www.lowandwide.net - mostly as the main topics of converstion are fast cars, large food and nekkid ladies.

I'm on the Imp Yahoo forum and the Imp club forum.
They are both useful but it can get abit boring talking about Imps all the time.
So I spend my time on here instead. On the Imp clubs forum I have posted about 25 messages and on here over 800! I have been a member of the Imp club forum twice as long as being a member of Retro Rides!
