You are looking at my 1970 Midget, which I have owned since December 2005, and am selling because I needed something with five seats (I bought a 1972 Avenger GT as a replacement).
In general, the condition of this car is quite good, although obviously it is nearly 40 years old so has some imperfections. The car has done just under 41,000 miles and is mechanically excellent. A new gearbox was fitted just before I bought it, and I have also replaced the exhaust manifold and frontpipe (the car also has a stainless back-box), as well as general service items. The car has a new MOT, but the tax ran out at the start of the month (although it is tax exempt so a new tax disc is free). The car has been fully converted to run on unleaded petrol, which saves a lot of money as lead additive is quite expensive (around £5 extra per tank of petrol). An oil-cooler has been fitted which means that the oil pressure is very good. The car also has a K&N air filter, painted wire wheels, quarter-bumpers, a hood stowage tonneau cover, and comes with an AM/FM radio in an MG Club radio console, with Kenwood speakers in the back, and all connections for a CD player are present. The car also comes with a fitted, breathable outdoor car cover. The car also has a very attractive Moto-Lita steering wheel
Bad bits
- Some little scratches and chips in the paint
- Two small, repaired rips in the hood vinyl, one popper missing, and a 5" split in the rear window (a new window can be sewn in)
- Bit of filler around rear wing seams
- Some pinholes in the chrome, the MG boot badge chrome has bubbled quite a lot, and the spinners are somewhat tarnished
- Dash switch missing (although no functions are affected and I'm sure I saw it lying around somewhere... I'll try to fit it if I find it) and some small imperfections in the dash paint
- The bonnet release handle dangles about a bit (some hamfisted person pulled it too hard!) although it works perfectly (and it can be tucked behind the radio console to keep the interior tidy)
Good bits
- Only 41,000 miles
- Runs on unleaded petrol for very cheap running costs
- Gets 40mpg if driven carefully
- Very presentable car, no noticeabley untidy parts (unless you look closely and see a little paint chip or small scratch)
- Wire wheels (no broken spokes, and with radial tyres, spare included along with soft mallet) and Moto-Lita steering wheel
- New MOT
- Tax exempt
- Interior complete (apart from one switch), vinyl and carpets in very good condition
- Oil cooler fitted for better reliability
- K&N air filter
- New (ish) gearbox, fitted only a few thousand miles ago
- Stainless steel oversills (look much nicer than painted sills)
- Radio and Kenwood speakers fitted, connections present for new CD player
- Comes with fitted, breathable outdoor car cover
- Also has a Disklok-style steering wheel lock and battery master switch with removeable key for added security
- Battery master switch can be turned off, meaning the battery will not drain if you want to store the car for a while
The car comes with some history, from the early 1990s onwards, and also comes with a Haynes Manual, a Moss Spares and Parts catalogue, a Haynes Restoration Manual (which covers a lot of things that are left out of the workshop manual), and two tuning books (one copy of David Vizard's 400-page engine-tuning saga and one which concentrates on everything else!). The car also comes with a beefy scissor jack instead of the flimsy screw jack that originally came with these cars.
I can be contacted in the evenings on 01621 819038, or in the daytime on 07910 763342. The car is located in Tiptree, Essex, and you can arrange a viewing at any time. I will happily pick you up from Colchester (or Witham, or Kelvedon) train station if you cannot make it to Tiptree.
I will accept PayPal or cash/cheque on collection as payment (although obviously I'll have to wait for the cheque to clear before you can drive away!).
