My favourite is the Peugeot 205 GTI. Mainly because I am a huge rally fan, and a model of the 205, the T16, competed in the Group B era of rallying.
My dad has owned about 16 of them all together, and Ive helped work on a few, and I think they are great cars.

I vote Pugsley! OK, so the Golf is quicker, feels more solid and is much more comfortable & spacious. Also more reliable and better built...
BUT there's nothing like the feeling you get in a 205gti...everytime you exit the car you'll be beaming from ear to ear. they are just MAGIC!

I'll go with the frogs. Golfs can be a little bit too sensible for my liking, besides, I enjoy working on my cars and I've never seen a pug that didnt like breaking down ;D

I've never actually owned either, although I have driven both (Golf mk2 GTi 16 valve I think and a Pug GTi 1900cc model incedentally) but I can't really choose between, both are great cars and have their own strengths.

Given the choice between a mint Mk2 Golf GTI and a 205GTI, I'm not so sure in my decision... I think I could be persuaded for a nice Miami Blue 1.9 205... But against the Mk1, no contest ;D

I owned a Mk 2 Golf Gti and it was a good car. Well made, stylish and quite good fun to drive. It made me feel grown up and sophisticated, and it looked good too.
I had a few drives in a friends 205 Gti. It was a great car. Poorly made but beautiful and an absolute hoot to drive. No way could you not want to boot it everywhere. It made me feel like a hooligan

I`d pick a Mk1 or a Mk2 Golf over a 205 any day.
Having driven a few in 1.6, 1.9 and Mi16 flavour I have to say I wasnt really that impressed.
Thats not to say its a bad car, it isnt, but the chassis isnt that great.
Another downside is that they don't look that nice and it feels like its made from recycled tin cans.
Also the 205 engine sounds like a bucket of bolts and is awful to work on.
;D

1.9 205 GTi. Great car. Can be really driven to the limits. Don't get me wrong, Golfs are Ok and I do like them, especially the Mk1 but the 205 is just that bit more fun.

I`ve had debates like this on other forums but which car someone prefers is a very subjective matter

Tough decision and it does come down to what you're comparing. Like many people I'd take the 1.9 205 over a MkII golf any day. But ultimately I don't think you can beat the original MkI Golf, so it just wins it for me!
