91 Polo GT for sale
I am selling my 91 GT as I am moving onwards and upwards with my mk1 golf project for next years season, all this year I have been to most big shows, inc big bang, and also been using it for the welsh hill climb championship in standard production, its very competitive in its class and ran a 16.8sec quarter at Santa pod! The car itself I have owned for just over a year and has never given me an ounce of trouble and recently flew its mot so it has 11 months ticket on it and 6 months tax. It is also my daily driver and gets driven to shows events etc, it was bog standard when I got it and has an impressive history file including all old MOT slips, and Tax Discs. It has a fsh up to 100,000 miles, with receipts for servicing since. Mileage is 135,000. I built it as a dual purpose car for both shows and hill climbing so it has both form and function.
The spec is as follows
.Running 7&8” compomotive 5 spokes bit like revos these have been refurbished and come up mirror with a bit of meguiars metal polish with a monster dish and a correct negative offset for fwd on the front pair of new 175/50/13 fuldas on the front and very good yokohama 175/50/13 a539s on rear. Makes the look complete
.Suspension is mainly spax apart from the front springs, and is less than a year old roughly a 80mm drop but rides superb and has been modded to stop the arms and driveshaft’s bottoming under full compression it is also fully power flex polybushed. Also has new Top mounts, I love the stance on this car.
.Brakes are refurbished G40 VW2 callipers with drilled and grooved ventilated discs and new greenstuff pads.
.The engine is more or less standard to comply with the regs for hill climbing but it does have a full stainless Power flow one box system from manifold back, Pipercross alloy filter, magnecor leads and an alloy rocker cover. Service wise its run on synthetic 15w/40 and filter change every 3k miles that I have done in her, also has a new dizzy cap leads etc
.Exterior it has a one off battery cut off /fire extinguisher pull recess in the drivers wing, I did this as it is pretty unique and was impressed at the amount of people that approach me at shows/ events etc and talk about such a simple yet effective mod, also it beats cutting the scuttle/bonnet. And the polished alloy complements the wheels perfectly
The door squares can be peeled off if desired for a more euro stealthy road look
The timing strut for racing screws into the towing eye hole and when hot in use is completely invisible other than that its just standard gt spec with nice bumpers and arches that are nice and black not faded like usual
It’s not without a few little dents and a little bit of lacquer peel on the passenger a pillar but it is 16 years old and is so much fun it can be forgiven for not being mint as it’s so much fun. But it did win 3rd place in a show and shine last summer when my mate owned it I gave it a wax oiling before last winter and it’s in good nick under there.
.Interior is now fully in apart from the carpet as the hill climb regs call for full interior bar carpet and the driver seat is allowed to be changed for a race item. The momo seat in the pics is not included as I had it custom fitted for myself and I am 8.5 st it’s the only seat that will ever do the job, will be buying a new one to replace it at the weekend. Also the fuel tank is an alloy item in the spare wheel well and the original tank has been removed to save weight and it was a bit rusty around the neck, uses a 4pt willans harness.
If I didn’t want to move up from the standard class I would keep running this but the possibilities for tuning a mk1 golf are far grater than the polo in terms of suspension, engine choices so the decision has been made it has been damn good partnership but time to move on is here
Looking for around £1400 for her but am open to offers and don’t mind if I keep the wheels as they are rare as poor quality wobbly children's play pony and superb quality. Open to offers with or without rims.
