I really hate making mods that don't make the car go faster, but safety is one thing I'll make an exception for... As you probably know, seatbelts weaken over time due to UV rays etc., and seeing as it's my Mercs 30th birthday in October I'm thinking of getting a replacement set. Trouble is I don't want to go to Mercedes because the price will be astronomical (although on some rare occasions they have surprised me!) - you can still get them from MB but it'll cost. Are there any other places that do replacement seatbelts? Can you get just the belt part attached to the original reel gubbins, or does the whole lot need to be replaced? I'm assuming if there are companies out there that do it, they'd need the old set as a pattern to go off. Alternatively I could find a newer car down the scrappers and fit those belts.... but that's just cheap-as$ and not really as safe! Anyone have any ideas?

You could try Securon they do belts for most cars. But if you buy Securon belts get them from a company they supply not direct from Securon as for some reason they tend to charge more.

Thanks for the replies. It's just one of those things I don't want to have to test.... the moment when I find out that my seatbelts are no good could be messy!! I'll try the links... see how much they want for a pair

I assume the benz was fitted with rears as standard? My coupe was'nt so I am making a stronger rear parcel shelf panel that will accomodate the new mounting points. We sell a kit for the Moggies that requires a similar mod but it has to be welded by us due to the warrenty/public liability implications! Did you know that if DIY seatbelt upgrades are seen to be incorrectly fitted then it will invalidate your insurance! makes sence really. But it is surprisnig also that people don't realise using second hand parts also can do the same! Even if the MOT man tells you it is ok!

How does an insurance company tell if you've fitted s/h belts?

I surpose it is to do with if the car is in a crash and the belts come away from the mountings and are not doing the job they were fitted to do.

Seatbelts are labled. So its quite easy for insurance companies to tell where they came from.

Mine only has front belts. It has the mounting points for rears but I think they must've been optional extras. I wouldn't mind fitting rears though. Didn't know that about insurance!!

My Imp only has two seats, so back belts aren't a problem. I do have TRS four point harnesses though, so the seatbelt issue is taken care of quite well! ;D ;D ;D
