First registered September 1985 on a C plate.
MOT August 07, tax March 08.
3 Previous mature owners, first one 1985-1994, second 1994-2006. Third only had it as a temporary car for 6 months then I bought it.
95k, with old MOT's back to the early 90's and some early service history to back this up.
GTI engineering plus pack mods include, gas flowed big valve head, uprated cam, possibly a schrick item but I'm not 100% sure, Ansa 4-2-1 manifold (it now runs a standard pattern stainless exhaust which judging from the figures on the rollers is robbing a little power), bilstein suspension (although front shocks have been replaced in recent years with boge turbogas items), ronal 14"alloys (correct VW offest, not the audi ones) and a zender lower tailgate spoiler. All this work was carried out before the car was first registered.
Nice tidy original car, not mint, but perfectly presentable.
Body good, paint original, some stone chips and car park dints but nothing you wouldn't reasonably expect. Bad points? Well if I'm to be critical there's some bubbling under the sill foils, a little on the rear valance and an area on the leading edge of the n/s rear arch under the cover that will require attention sooner or later. Somebodys also been a little over zealous with the T-cut on the bonnet.
Mechanically its on the button, the engine pulls well to 6k and there's good power thoughout the range. The gearbox is tight and benefits from having had the linkages overhauled recently, at the same time I fitted a weighted shift rod.
In the last 1k I've fitted new front wheel bearings, ball joints wishbones with polybushes and poly bushed the front anti roll bar, G60 top mounts, poly bump stops and a near side outer CV gaitor.
Other recent work includes rear wheel bearings, rear discs and pads, service at around 90k, leads, rotor arm and cap. The cambelt was last changed on March 06 at 78k.
The interior is very tidy, with only a little dampness to the bottom of the drivers door card caused by a damaged membrane letting things down. The original Blaupunkt radio cassette is still fitted, as are period pioneer speakers to the front doors and parcel shelf. A votex console with VDO gauges and a radio/CD player is fitted at present. These are available by seperate negotiation or will be replaced with a standard 8v console.
Please note that a towbar and electrics are currently fitted. Its been used to tow nothing bigger than a small box trailer. This can be removed prior to sale if required.
I really don't want to sell but I really need to get a more practical daily and can't justify keeping this as a second car.
I'll take £1500 with the standard console fitted, or £1700 with the votex, radio CD and VDO gauges.
I will consider a good 5 door mk3 GTI, preferably a 16v in part exchange.
