OK, boys and girls....
I have for sale a 1981 Vauxhall Astra Mk1 saloon (not hatch!!!)
1.2 litre engine which is fabulous around town & motorway-able... Ridiculously cheap insurance... Cheap road tax Rare early model with a boot rather than a hatch! Very few of these have survived. Beige with matching interior (how retro can you get!?) 44,000 miles from new, 1 old giffer owner + me, Alloy wheels (correct offset) with good tyres... 10 months MoT...
Forum members can have it for £425, before I stick it on eBay + scene tax.
Pics to follow. POG.

I was expecting it to be like a proper saloon but it looks just like the hatch. Looks good, if I had £450 then i would be very interested but I don't

I had one of these in like the 1980s. Mine was red and had the 1.3 SOHC. Loved that car. Ah, nostalgia.
also they have the same crash rating as a Merc S class or Volvo 760...

back in 1987 or so I did my work experiance at a transport technology department at a local University. Among the sheefs of data and reports and stuff about was a report on the previous year (thus 1986 or so) accident & injury statistics from Europe. The UK did not participate back then. The Swedish government was the "authority" and ranked cars in 5 groups, like NCAP but based on actual accidents they investigated. The Band A cars were Merc S Class, Volvo 7 series, Opel Kadett D. I was chuffed as thats what I drove then. The reason aparently for this ickle car being right up there is that they have massively over engineered sills, B pillar and such with a specially tensioned roof panel mean that it doesn't fold in the floor under sever impact and if its hit from the side its as good as SIPS or whatever.
Its a long long time ago. And its down to my memory. I can't even recall the publication it was is, one of those industry insider things which engineers and designers get.

I concur with what akku is saying, there was an organisation called 'Folksam' I think who studied crash data, I remember the princess wedge was well thought of by em too.
