I would say that this is a retro ride nowadays. I'm looking to invest in some Italian machinery so this may be going....
Up for sale is my much enjoyed 1992 MX5 SE
As an SE it benefits from the following extras:
-Tan Leather Interior
-ABS
-15 10 Spoke Alloys
-Brilliant Black bodywork
See more here www.mx5-mazda.co.uk/mx5%20SE%20spe
It has the 114 BHP 1.6 Engine, not the strangled 88hp engine of later models so is reasonably quick, but very quick on those country lanes.
As the pictures show it is in very good condition despite its mileage of 129 000. The car has plenty of life left in it yet!
The car was MOT'd a week ago and passed with an advisory on the handbrake, a problem which the garage couldn't resolve but I did within 30 minutes. That is the only problem they picked up (which has of course, been sorted) and they commented on how mechanically sound the car is for its age. At the same time they replaced the Rear Pads.
This car also had a full service 3 weeks ago, with the usual oil, plugs etc plus I paid extra for the Diff and Gearbox oil to be completely emptied and re-filled with some decent oil. There are also 4 decent Toyo TR1 tyres, they hold the road fantastically.
My MX5 has literally never let me down, even on the coldest mornings, and to be honest I am little worried at my planned investment in some Italian machinery.
And now the bad bits:
Cosmetics – The paintwork shines up well as you can tell, but closer inspection shows that the stone chip protection has started to flake slightly, mainly on the passenger door. I removed the standard plinth on the bumper which revealed a couple of holes and some slight scratching where the plate was. Chips away priced it at £80 to fix this. I also (very slowly and stupidly bearing in mind my mate was telling me about the bloody hazard) reversed into a small sign post. As the rear bumper flexed some paint cracked off, I would estimate Chipsaway would fix this for £20 on top of the front plate paint. Also some small trim on the passengers side window has come off due to a hasty repair.
The exhaust baffles have gone, it is quite rattley because of this, but once warmed up, and above 2k RPM (you will be above this most of the time) there is no noise.
The cambelt will need changing soon.
In summary, this is an excellent car, one which I have very much enjoyed, but I am being tempted by more exotic machinery.
The price? A mere £1800 to you good sire, a price which reflects the cosmetic imperfections, yet which does not make me wince too much. Of course, this is open to discussion.
