My mate is selling this and I can vouch for it's grin factor and general solidity!
Imagine this little hatchback pulls up to you at the lights, you look over and smile at its quirky looks and spindly wheels and then as the lights turn green you gasp in horror as it snakes off into the distance in a cloud of tyre smoke, ladies and gentlemen this is the little known and rare Volvo 360.
It has the legendary carb fed Volvo 2 litre engine, renowned for astronomical mileages and putting out I believe about 85Kw, secondly it is rear wheel drive, a trait only shared among the hatchback community with the Chrysler/Talbot Sunbeam & Toyota Starlet both with a certain pedigree and the poor old Volvo was not quite as sporting as these, in fact it's a bit of a pudding albeit a fast and enjoyable one with an unusual mechanical layout not dissimilar to the Porsche 924, the front mounted engine is connected to the gearbox which is just fore of the rear axle, this of course should make for a nicely weighted car, alas the suspension is built for comfort!
So this quick little car is of a different era, no electric windows, no power steering, a factory MW/LW push button radio, cloth seats and headrests but 85Kw in a lightweight shell! The previous owner to me had the car 13 years and bought it from a relative in Norfolk where the car originally came from, it currently shows 112k on the clock, not much for this engine. The Volvo service history was thorough and stamped up to about 60k, the car was looked after well subsequently by local garages and Kwikfit of all places and it comes with a pile of bills and previous MOTs to prove the mileage. It also comes with it's Volvo folder containing the handbook, service record and a workshop manual. I don't claim that this car is pristine, the previous owner gave up this car because it was to fail the MOT on rust, this has been dealt with to a good standard the car needing several patches for it's test, both sills and chassis were effected and dealt with. There is still some rust on the drivers door by the window and both door bottoms and valance and a few spots elsewhere but nothing dramatic or structural. The paintwork is tired but then it is 22 years old, the glass is in good order, the lights are all okay apart from a replaced lens on the nearside reverse light. The tyres are excellent Firestones on the front and Centaurs on the rear. Inside the seats are clean and in good condition, it is all original though with slight wear in places as you'd expect, the clutch and gearbox are sweet, the steering is nicely weighted and gives a good feel for the road, the brakes are squeak free and stop evenly, the handbake is good. The switchgear does as it's told and feel good too. There are two annoying things about the interior, first the radio doesn't switch off with the ignition and as I often forget to turn the radio off and use the car sporadically I come back to a flat battery (which is excellent by the way!) Secondly the dashboard dial lights don't work which is only a pain if you drive the car at night, I don't!
A quick, solid, reliable car, attaining cult classic status in need of a bit of love, a perfect street sleeper and drift car that can easily be modded while retaining its Grandad looks with 12 months MOT and 6 months tax, come and get her! The car is in Kennington near the Oval in London, looking for £350ono
