Pretty simple, want something tough, decent sized, to use as a works car... Something like big volvo, passat (pre 97, or whenever they went ughh), 405, you get me? Want something tough, easy to fix, preferably an oil burner, but willing to consider petrols.... There is a Vulva 740 derv auto for sale near me with almost a years ticket and leather and all that for £750, which aint a bad option, want to see what else is about. Budget... £500-£1500, depending on how cool/tough/awesome it is... gotta least a year with as little work as possible basically. Thanking you.... Located in Camberley, Surrey (just SW of London) and will obviously pay cash and collect asap Ta Jamie

Whats the boot size like? Seriously, the boot size is seriously important... I've gotta be able to get 6 to 8 full of my postmans bags in the boot.. Paintworks no bother, I owned a Fiat from new, the paint was shot within 5 years

Archie - not bad, derv on on t'bay for £750, and its got leather... handy for sweaty postmen in the summer  Cressy looks awesome.... I think it'd be a road-scraper with circa 150kg in the boot... Kinda tempting tho... being totally honest, how reliable do you seriously reckon itd be, being fired up at 4.30am in the morning.. if it cant get me to work, I get a disciplinary I do a lot of stop start driving for 4 or so hours each morning, don't think it'd be too kind on it. Am loving that tho, especially with the rims.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Sounds like you have quite specific requirements for this car. 4 hours of stop-start driving every day is a pretty tough schedule. An oldskool petrol engine with a carb is not going to like that, and it is gonna be hard work at the petrol pumps too.
I think you want something simple comfy and semi-modern, I would suggest a 205 or 309 diesel, non-turbo ideally.

I tried an AX diesel, which was stupidly too small, but it definately gave me an insight that a derv lump would be more suited...
To clarify a bit more, some days its literally move the car 500yrds 5 times, over 4 hours. Other days, its move the car 200 yards 10 times....
