 Can anybody advise me? I want to clean up the chassis on the coupe so that I can weld in the new strengthening plates and then prep it for new under seal and other rust proof agents. What is the best way to approach this? I have horrible layers of old under seal that needs to be removed, can I use a wire brush attachment on a grinder or will I have to use elbow grease and strip it off by hand? Once it is stripped, what is the best approach to rust proof it after I have welded in the new chassis plates and seam welded it up. I was thinking that once it was back to bare metal I could Red Oxide it and then slap on the under seal... I'm not fussed about what it looks like so long as it won't rust up on me or rot out. I've found a wire brush drill attachment chomps through underseal pretty well. You might need to get the old elbow grease out for the nooks and crannies though!
For bodywork, I try to get steel that's lightly galvanised as it doesn't rust! It's still perfectly weldable because it's only a thin galvanised layer. I then spray it over with zinc primer, followed by regular primer and a nice healthy layer of top coat.

Hot air gun and scraper to shift old underseal, and would probably go for Hammerite and then Waxoyl rather than underseal. If you do use underseal, Waxoyl make one called 'Underguard' which is claimed not to dry out and flake.
