I learned to drive in a mk1 micra, it was utterly forgiving and took a lot of abuse!

Yes indeed I am the proud owner of a 1989 'LS', as a first car you can't go far wrong with a micra, they can take a surprising amount of abuse and with a few modifications will quite happily shame far more powerful and expensive machines. They are ideal for bouncing down country roads in the middle of the night.

the one i have is red with no rust or marks, the interior is pristine and looks like new the last owner was an old women which explains a lot. its such a great little car and i hope it can give me a goof few years of enjoyment does anyone know how hard it is to get parts for one for future reference

Parts are easy enough to get though motor factors, the only parts you will need though will be general service parts i.e. plugs, oil filters ect Generally nothing goes wrong with them even negelected ones like mine are very reliable (mines just hit 110K and only needed a light bulb for the mot).

edit: has the timing belt been changed recently?, they should be done every 60000miles otherwise they to tend to snap, even if yours is a very low millage one i would advise getting it done.

If you're not sure then do it anyway. It's not a major job but will save your motor.

We had a heck of a time replacing the Hitachi carb on ours though. No such thing as a good used one over here.

There's a micra for sale on the notice board at work. (well the ADVERTS on the board, not the car, obviously.... ) '92 (square shape) , 30,000 miles!!! £595, if I remember right.
