Do you ever have one of those mad moments whilst driving - you go fast just for no reason whatsoever? No? Oh curse word, I must be the only irresponsible one in here then... Anyway, Coming down the sliproad onto the motorway as I always do at 6:30am ish. Very occasionally there is nothing on the road (you can see along way ahead from the sliproad), so I booted the new Benz. Apart from the odd blat up to 80 or so, I'd not really played with it before. It changed from 3rd to 4th at 125mph, and was still accelerating hard at 140 where I copped out as I could see traffic in the distance. I love my new car! However, a colleague just pointed out that one of my front tyres was nearly flat. I went to have a look, and the walls of the tyre now looks knackered. They are EagleF1's that are only a few months old, so will now have to buy a new one. Bum. Makes me wonder if it was flat before my moment of madness though. How lucky? How stupid? Note to self: you now know the car is fast, you don't need to prove it again. That's all.

i remember last year i took my 1380 mini through Swansea city center at 70 odd at 4 in the morning! what a car! wasnt there a thing in Retro cars where they met up at 4 in the morning and ragged round London as it was dead?! we should have a middle of the night meet up and do some (responsible) speeding through usually congested areas!

I know the feeling! Crazy petrol-head takes over and urges you to plant the throttle, with that oh-so-quiet voice of reason, barely audible over the rising engine note, saying "this is not a good idea!". And when it's over, the mental wrist-slapping begins.... I bet you'll miss the Benz when you're away! At least you've got someone to take care of it in the mean time. Finding someone to volunteer for that must have been SOOO hard! Form an orderly queue..... ;D

The car's looking nice by the way I wonder if that tyre was on the way out anyway, I've done the OTT backroad routine in Volvos loads of times, some of which can't be a great deal lighter than your Merc if they are lighter at all, and are comparable in size, although I've rarely had one past 135, and I've never had a previously sound tyre deteriorate that fast.

Finding someone to volunteer for that must have been SOOO hard! Form an orderly queue..... ;D Heheh. Actually the queue soon dwindled when people realised that it was an insurance group 20 car. My old man was the only one able to afford the policy! Me : 29, 11 years no claims, no points (at the moment!) 10,000miles/year - £452. With NU of all companies! Nice... Dad : Fifty-mumble, indured on classic policy second car, 3000miles/year - £259 I will never understand how insurance companies come up with their prices.

About 5 years ago I got caught speeding on the M1, I got clocked at 109mph - whilst 'slowing' down for the Worksop junction. When I got to Worksop, I had done the journey in just under an hour from Wellingborough in Northants including being stopped by the Police I'll never forget that sinking feeling in my stomach when I saw the blue lights in my rear veiw mirror - and later when sitting in court. I really thought i'd lost my license, but I think due to the time of the day (early morning) And favourable conditions (clear and dry) I got away with six points and a fine. I was really lucky and I certainly try and keep to the speed limit now - its just not worth pushing it The car I had at the time was an tweeked E36 BMW Turbo diesel - that fatefull journey was the only time I managed to get the MPG below 30 - The average for the trip was 29MPG ;D

lmfao @ ScrapingScrap - and i bet you could watch the fuel gauge drop as you were driving along too!! Scary about the tyre though. I know how hard it is to resist opening it up. I always felt the need when i was riding regularly. My bikes been off the road for 18 months now though, and ive promised myself to make self preservation a bit higher up my priority list when i get back on it.

I used to drive my G40 like the back end was on fire, flat out everywhere - in the end did nothing but push an apex seal through the supercharger (and i challenge you to find a more expensive noise!) and got me a few near-misses. The Quattro on the other hand is driven sedately (for 17mpg you'd better believe it!) with the occasional redline if someone in something small, french and mostly plastic tries to show me up. read the badges d!ckwipe, then try and beat me off the line
