Okay I've been looking at lowering springs for the Golf,.. It seems like its here to stay,.. so... might as well have it how I want it. I want it lower! ,.. however I don't want to chop the springs and compromise the ride as its used everyday (usually by my other half) ,.. So I've been looking at lowering kits and more specifically lowering springs because frankly I don't want to pay out on a whole bunch of new shocks etc. Awesome GTi has these options : www.awesome-gti.co.uk/vw%20golfmk3/suspension.htmlThere is a 45-50 drop for later models, but sadly mine isn't a late model,.. so the only spring based option I've got from them is 30mm ,.. which (having measured it this morning) is frankly rubbish. So anyone know of any other people that would do a lower kit? Or any other way to drop is safely without cutting springs and maintaining ride quality!

David: Can you get the part number for those spax bits? (The spax one not the Deemon Tweeks one obviously!) I'll see if I can get them cheaper! My dad sells the odd suspension kit in his shop - I'll do some arm tristing to get them at cost. Figure I owe ya a favour...

lower a car more than 40mm and you are normally recommended to have shortened shocks. you can probably get away with 45mm id have thought. ive just cut the springs on the passat....drives sweet as a nut...only did 1.5 coils...gonna take the extra.5 off to really slam it

They recommend shorter shocks because the originals are designed to operate within a certain space within the damper. If you lower the car, the damper piston operates higher up the shock, and if it goes too high it'll collide with the top of the damper body and knacker the piston/valve assembly. Also, the uprated shocks will be designed for the higher performance spring, so you'll get a better overall ride.
