It's not retro but i need a rant
Took my girlfriends mondeo (see, i told you) for an MoT on monday - it failed as expected on tyres, emissions, brake pipe and a front suspension bush. all fairly boring stuff.
got it all sorted, for the emissions replaced the exhaust that had two massive holes in. failed on emissions again. lambda sensor seems not to be working, so off to the scrapyard i go, ten quid and a burned knuckle later (isn't it amazing how hot exhaust manifolds get?) i take it back to the station. failed. bought it home, kicked it.
went back today, "oh yes guvnor i've found an air mass sensor leak and some other curse word i'm blatantly making up, can you retest for me?". it scrapes through, just, but it's a pass. all i did was kick it.
now my rant is that surely there should be some form of common sense approach - my 1990 audi can get away with sending plumes of evil gasses out the back and pass, my fastback can actually poison the tester but because the mondeo is newer, having 0.001% too many CO emissions is a fail. Basically all the guy did was keep running the test until the random levels were at a point that made the computer go "Yeah".
BAH.
