Got my into gear and atacked the Sceptre today.... this is what I found under the filler on the sill/step joint.... A blob of weld about every 2 inchs..... Fell off in me 'and, Guv........ ;D Actually, the curse word welding was a blessing.... made geting the old sill off easier, and I wasn't under any illusions as to what Iwould find..... nice to be able to take my time, without the MOT/monday morning looming. Been there, done that..... (And I got to play with the new camera )

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

i believe that is generally what is known as a 'bodge job' ;D You could say that..... ;D I think the sills were replaced to get it MOT'd when the reg No. was transfered.... I supose it at least kept it out of the scrapyard..... It reminds me of a piece in 'Practical Classics' a while back. Guy had an MGC which he re-shelled with a new MGB shell. Front inner wings were well and truly bodged on his car (B's and C's had different inner wings) Someone later wrote in pointing out that the 'bodge' had kept the car on the road so he could come along and build his 'replica'.......

When I did the Mercs sills, they were crammed full of paper and filler. The paper they used had the garages address on it though, so I know never to use that place!! Can't wait to see the end result. What wheels are they? Look cool with that red band around them!! You're braver than I am, I still haven't managed to psyche myself up and do the Benz bodywork in this cold weather!! ;D

The wheels are the original steels, painted with the stock trim rings and Ford hubcaps. you can see them better in this pic: The plan is for some more de-chroming/mild body mods and a red oxide/satin black scallop paint job (a la rattle can, of course.... ;D ) and I quite fancy some Appliance chrome four spokes.....
