I saw this : and I'm now tempted to do something similar to my golf Whilst finding out how to get good results out of rattle cans I found this : www.hotrodders.com/t44212.htmlIt is really useful!

That looks like a bowling shoe.
On the happy side, I am quite a dab hand at rattle can spraying having made numerous models over the years and done many patch work repairs on fords.
Making sure that the item you're about to paint and the paint itself are both warm is really useful. That way you get optimum adhesion. I always stand my paint cans in boiled water for 5 minutes, shake really well and stand again before use.
Clean conditions are essential. I often spray a bit of water over where I'm working to keep the dust down whilst I paint.
Step one after cleaning and masking the area to paint is to key it. A light scuffing with a scotchbrite pad or some 240 grit wet 'n' dry works OK. Clean off the dust with some thinners then wipe with a tack rag (B & Q sell them).
Next, warm the paint as previously described.
The first pass of paint needs to be light. Just a key for the following coats. Leave it 5 mins then spray more on. Work left to right about 10-12 inches from the surface, always over spray let and right. If you stop whilst still over the job, spattering can occur. The point where enough paint has been deposited comes from experience, too much will result in sagging paint (curtaining), too little won't help produce a good shine.
When you're happy, walk away and leave it for a few hours. Don't be tempted to prod it!
If you've masked anything, remove the masking after about 10 mins while the paint edge is still a bit wet. This way, you get a softer paint edge.
When the paint is really hard, about 7 days later, it can be carefully wet sanded with 1200 wet 'n' dry then polished and waxed.
How's that?

oooh good tip right there!! Thanks,.. Really I should probably put my efforts into getting the engine swapped out! But that seems like hard work So I might just paint it. Who cares about a bit of low compression when your cruising around looking good! haha

Typical isn't it. I work on a 4 door model asuming yours is a 2 door so spend ages modding, then you say yours IS a 4 door!
That new black one looks rather nice.
