I'm selling my 1961 Racer
With a baby in tow, it's getting harder and harder to justify to my wife owning a 'two-seater' car so...
Note: engine and interior pics are a bit old. The heater has been removed (and 105Speed blanking plates fitted over the vent holes), and the interior has the original floormats fitted, a pukka period Moto-Lita in place of that Mountney wheel, and the correct 2000E gearlever.
Spec as follows:
1961 Anglia 105E Deluxe — SHV 829
Body
1961 Deluxe shell, engine bay bulkhead modified to clear twin carburettors, original gearlever hole blanked off and transmission tunnel clearenced and drilled to accept new gearlever position and Milton Race Preparation (MRP) gearbox crossmember, battery cut-off switch mounted on top of rear wing, heater removed, 105Speed heater blanking plates.
Paint: Ambassador blue with white door and bonnet squares.
Engine
Ford Cortina 1500GT engine, rebuilt by Redline Racing Developments, bored +0.060 inch to give 1558cc, Powermax pistons, heavy-duty bearings, Cortina 125E con-rods, lightened and balanced bottom end, steel flywheel, Duplex timing gear, high-capacity oil pump, Kent Cams BCF2 Fast Road camshaft, gas-flowed cylinder head (with standard-size valves), heavy-duty valve springs, 2x Weber 40DCOE carburettors, Facet Silver Top fuel pump (boot-mounted), Filter King fuel regulator, Flowtech alloy and Pacet electric fans, 105Speed three-core rad and silicon hoses, Lumenition electronic ignition, Long Life bespoke stainless steel exhaust.
Transmission
Gearbox: Corsair 2000E four-speed.
Axle and final drive ratio: 3.9:1 with rebuilt plate-type limited-slip differential.
Suspension
Front: Ford Consul Classic struts modified to 2.25 inch ID, adjustable-height coil-overs by Leda Suspension Ltd, MRP offset suspension top mounts, MRP adjustable track control arms, MRP strut brace, extra period anti-roll bar.
Rear: MRP damper conversion, MRP A-frame kit — both fitted by Chris Isaacs' Racecars, Spax adjustable-rate dampers, 2 inch lowering blocks.
Superflex polyurethane suspension bushes throughout.
Lowered approx. 2 inches all round.
All of the above fitted and settings optimised by Leda Suspension Ltd.
Brakes
Front: MkIII Capri discs and M16 callipers.
Rear: standard.
Wilwood master cylinder, braided-steel brake hoses.
Wheels & Tyres
Genuine Minilite alloy 5.5Jx13 inch steel wheels with 165/70R13 Firestone F590 tyres — only two months' old.
Interior
Standard Deluxe trim, bolt-in Aleybars roll cage (rear only), three-point Willans safety harnesses, period Yazaki rev counter and Smiths oil pressure gauges added, Motolita steering wheel, fire extinguisher. Also period Corbeau GTA bucket seat fitted for sprints, track days, chasing bikes, etc.
I've owned this car four years and spent more money and time on it then I care to admit. It used to be a race car, and I've kept the period race look wherever possible. Shell is ultra-solid (the floor has never been patched), and it's sailed through the MoT every year. Paint is original with areas blown in — it's not show quality but if that bothers you, then you're missing the point of the car. It's meant to be driven not shown, and look old not over-restored.
Car is taxed, MoT'd and is ready to go — I've just driven to Le Mans and back in it.
Extensively featured in Classic Ford and Retro Cars since 2000. Loads of receipts and some history included (used to be owned by a former Max Power editor!).
It has a pre-suffix registration valued at £1400.
I spent a long time looking for this car, even longer modifying it, and believe me I'm not very happy about parting with it. Sure I could take the cage out, change the spring settings and stick a baby seat in the back — but frankly I'd rather lose an appendage.
Offers around £3500. Serious enquiries only please to Simon on 07971 970867
