I've got Barris' "Cars Of The Stars" book and it seems fitting US V8s was a common swap of the time. BMW 507 can only be improved with an iron V8, shirely

I've seen a 1960s Ferarri roadster with a Chevy V8 in it.... story goes like this... Ferrari bought by mildly wealthy doctor type in the mid 70s. Driven for a bit. Engine lets go big style. Sells car as a project for peanuts when he gets a quote for a recon job on the engine. Hot rodder type fellow buys the car, removes the engine, strips it and sells the un-bent bits for about what the whole car cost him, drops in a chromed up racey-spec Chevy small block and thrashes thepants off it for 20 years. He goes and winds up the Pebble Beach crowd with it now. one like this Which is apparently a 1965 275 GTS Thats what its about really. Now while I'm loving the Barris Giblets there, I'dlove to see a Barris Maserati hot rod the other way around, quad cam in a T bucket...

Quality! those Maz 4-cam 4.9 v8's might look the part but I know which V8 I would have if I actually wanted to use the car for travelling around now and then. What a great looking car too, class in a glass man.. only the ss was 4.9 AFAIK, there were 2 other engine sizes available, one was 4.7 and I can't be certain but I think it was 4.3. I've changed engines on 2 ghibli's, one auto convert (with bw35 for christs sake!) and an ss coupe. both were a total ballache to remove and the engine weighs far too much for an ally blocked v8. you have to take the steering box out to get them out that ones aces! a maserati that doesn't break down with alarming propensity, outstanding makes me want to stick an audi engine and box combo up the of the merak sitting on the ramp ;D
