it is daft to argue much over it, let alone let it get personal and hostile. Arguments from authority and ad hominem stuff is far more toxic than negative comments about a car, to my mind. I'm not being personal, hostile or subjective, honestly. I only bother posting when I actually have sonething to say. I do admit, you are starting to pee me off, but don't mistake annoyance for anything more machiavellian. plover.net/~bonds/adhominem.htmlread this before you use latin tags and spurious logic again. Just cos I choose to be a motor mechanic doesnt mean I don't read latin, or understand logic.

I post whatever I think might be helpful, and try to add something If a particular angle hasn't been covered. I don't always know what everyone else knows though. My reply may seem childishly obvious to you, but still perhaps helpful to the person asking the question. At least I can hope so. Perhaps I post carelessly, writing quickly and off the cuff, without thinking things through. The forum moves too fast to spend ages over any one post.
I suppose I do more posting than spannering due to being in winter hibernation, but I can't be the only one guilty of that. What am I going to say? Its bloody freezing, the car is still in pieces, and kept 10 miles away, I am skint again, I can't afford a proper digital camera so I can show what I HAVE managed to do, and I am short on enthusiasm for my own project? It's embarrassing, and I would rather not inflict too much narcissistic whinging on everyone else.
And honestly, I DO find "stop spouting about things you know nowt about." to be hostile. Regardless of whether you consider it an Ad Homenem or not, it was insulting, and uncalled for. I certainly do not think you are stupid because you are a mechanic, so there is no need to try and one-up me in pedantic logic chopping, especially considering the argument about Sierras contained precious little logic anyway.
I expect to find this thread deleted and gone in the morning. To anyone reading this, I am sorry for possibly costing you a thread.

Hmm, I'll dive into the hostile airspace by saying this. I like the Mk2 Granny, because it looks like an Aussie Falcon. That model's always intrigued me, like a Mk2 Granny but with a live axle. Easier to make something like this without cutting out loads of floor perhaps?

And honestly, I DO find "stop spouting about things you know nowt about." to be hostile ok, I apologise for that. It was a quickly written, off the cuff reply, without thinking it through. I'm only human, after all. If you think I/m being hostile to you, and you are a genuine car enthusiast, I apologise. I don't act in haste, I've been watching you for a while, and you fit the definition of a TROLL to a tee. Sorry, but its true. check for yourself. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_trollYour first ever post on this board was about how awful the new mini clubman is, nicely paraphrased from AutoExpress. No hint of "hi, I'm new", or "I like minis this is me". Straight in with the standard speil. yawn. Cold weather and apathy to your projects is no excuse, proper camera? who gives a ....? I spent 8 months posting blurry cameraphone shots and apologising all the time, cos my digital camera had an unfortunate "accident" This is 2008, digital pics are everywhere. Oh, and if yopu really WANT to know what it is that peed me off enough to have it out publicly, I suggest you re-read the austin somerset thread, and consider the phrase "teaching your grandma to suck eggs" And yea, sorry akku, I spoilt your thread. I'll make up for it on the next one, mate.

Apology accepted. I don't hold internet grudges, so that is the last of it.
I realise I suggested a few blatantly obvious things in your Somerset thread, but it was more to express support for the stripped out option I was talking about, rather than suggest it was at all a new idea. You seemed perfectly friendly, and agreed you were thinking along the same lines, and liked being reminded of Rubellion. I was quite enthusiastic about the idea of a stripped out rod based on the Austin running gear, since I do love it when the most practical option is also the coolest option. It is hard to see what I said that was so terrible.
Also, I do honestly hate the "new mini" with a passion. Not a rare opinion amongst mini owners. There was a good bit of back and forth, and I did try to explain my view as best I could. It really was just coincidence that was when I joined the forum.
I am not a troll. Trolls stir things up deliberately. With me, it is unintentional. Maybe I don't know when to shut up, maybe I am not great at predicting how people are going to respond to things either. I hope I have made enough positive, insightful posts to convince you I am genuine.

Fair enough. Its hard to judge intention on the internet, thats why smilies were invented I did apreciate your comments, and you are dead right. Sometimes the practical option is also the coolest. Some of my best vehicle builds have happened that way. But, I was rather irritated by the way you told me how to do a bulkhead chop, just cos I said that was what I was thinking. Like I said. teaching grandma to suck eggs. Sorry if I took you wrong, but like I said earlier, I get enough of that in real life. I'd really like to know more about your mini project, however trite you might consider it... I've had a few minis (and variants) over the years, and as you say the winter is slow. Its always nice to have a new thread to read, and comment on.

Well, you said you would keep the bulkhead, without saying how much of it you would want to keep. I was trying to describe the picture I had in my head when I said it wanted chopping down for the right look. It is always a little hard to communicate the ideas you have in your head.
Just goes to show how the internet makes communication so easy, and yet so difficult at the same time. I am glad we cleared the air though.
I've already posted up my custom bicycle project in "other modifications" but tomorrow I shall post up the motorbike, and a status report on the Mini.

There was a similar looking car in Classic Ford a while ago - that was running a 5.7l supercharged Chevy V8 - is this the same car in a different guise?

Oh and this:
With the current small turbos we'll se about 1700hp. But the Engine itself can cope okay with about 2300hp.
makes me grin like a goon :-)

Well to get back to the OP,
I think that Granny is absolutely nuts ;D
And as they´re not as popular as Sierras that´s another good reason for having one!

More power don't always mean faster.

Don't see how thats hating anything all hes stated is the truth really. They overshadowed by Sierras, and not many people like them which is true judging by the numbers of them left on the roads. I'm not sure this is a fair comparrison... The mk2 Granada stopped being produced in 1985(ish?) whilst the Sierra went on to 1992, so there are a lot more Sierras still with regular owners than Mk2 grannies - There are a handful of sierras still in the hands of "regular owners" in my neighbourhood - one a very nice metallic blue K-plate 2.0 GT (only 500 or so made?) I was sadly parted with my daily driver 1990 DOHC Sapph only 2 years ago myself. Whilst I agree that Mk2 grannys do not have a big "retro rides" type following, whilst the Sierra is increasingly popular, the mk2 granny following amongst current & ex banger drivers is very strong - go to any banger meeting and you will see several Mk2's and the odd Mk1 in the car park. I know quite a few Mk2 granny owners, so maybe it depends what circles you move in? Ignoring the mk3 granny (which has zero following in banger circles owing to front end weakness making them a fairly curse word car to race), and also the Sierra RS Cosworth which is a bit of a special case & coming back to the point about years of manufacture, I think I see as many mk2 grannies as I do Sierras of the same age (i.e. Mk1), which is probably a fairer comparison... Mk2 Granny FTW in my book - and I'm a big fan of the Sierra!
