Got a perfect set of seats up in Wales the weekend. For the bus. HOWEVER..... For those who do not know, the Transit had it's engine mounted offset to the right, so as to allow the driver more space, making the passenger (Left hand drive) seat more of a "jump seat" I need seats that fold forward, as the battery is behind the passenger seat, and I have stuff to fit behind the driver seat later. NOW...... The problem.....I need the passenger seat cut down the centre and narrowed by 2-3 inches, keeping the profile, and also the headrest, which flips up. Most importantly , I need the flip forward mechanisms to continue working. I will have the seats completely recovered, and also a logo embroidered into the seat back. Ideally cloth and leather is my choice. Anyone know where I can find a bit of a pro who can break down, cut, shut and recover the seats propperly ? Here are the seats, showing original, next to them, front and rear view, as well as a mocked up view, the passenger seat in the bus needs all the work.

haha! capri ghia seats! nice choice the springs on these are a cheap piece of garrot wire run from side to side, so that eases things a little. I would have thought that the frame could be narrowed either side of the headrest so's to keep that the original size. the tip and recline workings are at the side of the seat so they shouldn't be affected by narrowing it. top rod trimmer in days gone was neil tadman. don't know if he's still working these shores tho? you could ask charisma (or however you spell it) in colchester. they do "chimp my ride" so specialist seat mods should be a breeze for them. edit- its carisma www.carismaautomotive.co.uk/.

Thanks Edd, good to know it is keeping the seats in the "Ford family" Thanks for the reply. haha! capri ghia seats! nice choice the springs on these are a cheap piece of garrot wire run from side to side, so that eases things a little. cant you narrow them yourself then take em in to a trimmer. as b&d says the company he mentioned might be worth a try. not sure if id trust a trimmer to weld anything but if you find a custom shop that does trimming as well, you may be in luck. again as b&d says there very simple to do,but are quite time consuming cut youre section out the middle and cut out the headrest suports and weld back into new possition. these e are xr2i seats narrowed 2". and at the other end of seat narrowing are these bmw convertable seats narrowed and shortened in height and lenght. nitemare job as there all electric, and staying all electric

Checked out the Carisma lot..... sent an email.
I suspect with the sort of exposure they have had, theres will be high end pricing. Way out of my league, but maybe they can point me in the right direction down here in the South East.
They make some seriously beautiful interiors though.

Thanks Dave,
I suspect I will be buying a new welder soon, as the one I bought as a "bargain" is Obsolete, so I cannot get spares for it, though still checking one more avenue out. If I get a new welder, there is no reason for me not to deconstruct and cut and shut it, letting the upholsteres get on with the covering.

Back on the search for this as well.
Anyone know trimmers or similar in the South East who would narrow the one seat in the bus and re upholster for me at sensible money ?

same answer as a year ago. i take it, under the trim it is steel. get someone to narrow it.someone who knows how to weld preferably, then take it to any trimmers to be re trimmed.
you might have a long wait ,trying to find a trimmer whos a good welder as well.

heres what to do. take the cover off yourself. easy to do. then post on here for someone local to you to narrow it for you. must be a fair few members on here who live youre way. bung em a drink. make note of amount it was narrowed. then find local trimmer to recover it for you. once thats done you can start sanding youre roof ;D ;D
