don't confuse "high riders" with Gassers. Henry was a high rider rather than a gasser IIRC...
Van axles, leaf springs, spacers... and yeah, I imagine that handling is not a high priority for gasser owners.

With the V8 going in and the stupidly low weight of the viva (~800kg's) i want to make a bit of a baby gasser, something with a bit of go and the stance.
p.s. what are the differences between high riders and gassers anyhoo?

Not really looking for a 'first' or anything. Just think it'll look cool and that's all. Thanks for the insight - anyone got a more helpful definition?

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

HeneryHirise is alive and kicking, Was in the care of a mate of mine for years until very recently, as far as I'm aware was sold to finance his Gasser Hemi Fordson, Talking of Hemis, what ever happened to HEMINI, I loved that Pickup., as for Itsaviva, That was rolled at the pod in the 70s, went over about 5 times and I think eas scrapped,

Still back to the unanswered question - what constitutes a proper gasser as opposed to a high riders?
p.s. tonka and roarin rat have to be the coolest gassers of evAh.

I think the definition of Gasser is a little blurred, the term Gasser was applied to a class of drag racing, where the class runs on Gas [petrol] not Alcohol or Nitro, but over the years, the term Gasser has come to encompass anything that is Hi-riding or nostalgic saloon cars related to the racing styles of the 60s and 70s, of course the Gassers turned into the Fx cars then onto Funny cars running Alky and Nitro, so I suppose the linage has turned into FunnyCars. You need to find a DVD calle the gasser wars, Probably the most boring soundtrack and comentary of any documentary ever made, but the History within the films is inspirational

A gasser needs to have a straight tube front axle. They rode high for weight distribution on launch and also because the rules of the classes called for a certain crankshaft centreline to ground measurement (not sure what that was). A high rider was really a '70s thing and it was more about looks than anything else. These were "jacked up" by any means possible - shackle spacers, etc. but they were not gassers. A gasser will be a period perfect replica of a '50s or '60s A/G (or whichever of the many classes) American drag racer, although I reckon you can build a gasser style ride out of just about anything. A late '70s or '80s car made into a gasser might be seen as missing the point slightly by some though (not me). For all you need to know about gassers try here. www.gassermadness.com/

Ahhhh, so that would explain the cars I've seen that are jacked up at the front but still low at the back, with big rear wheels. They would still be gassers, yes?
