Roaring Rat is the best-est IMHO If it ever came up for sale I'd have to live in my camper van because I would have sold the house to buy it...and the missus agrees

I've got a 'budget-gasser' plan brewing in my head at the moment, would be 4 pot powered for now, more of the 'look' on a budget than anything else! fueled by the fact that I have nearly all of the required bits in the lockup already!! - anybody got any more pics of the red pop above, and the little blue chopped austin A40 pickup??? - kev

Almost on the road: b11 sunny breadvan, e36 tds, 325i skidcar,
nearly there: ford f250 tathauler, suzuki alto, u11 bluey
not for a while: ford pop, 32 rails,
not in this lifetime: ruby, '29 hillman
''unfortanatly I'm quite old and scruffy and in need of some loving. my drive shaft needs a new boot....''

the red viva shot at avon park does run a viva front end but it sits on modified mounts to raise it as it is now, powerplant is a 400ci {6.6 litre} pontiac engine, in the light viva shell gets the job done ;D couple of piks of my viva, runs higher tan stock, fd front springs and ladder bar/coil overs on the rear, to me it looks fab, not gasser or hi riding but a tad up on stock ;D

Theres loads of rules that were in effect for real "gassers". For RWYB's and on the road you can do what you want.
For a true gasser you need:-
Max 10% engine setback - basically that was just so people could stuff bigger motors in little engine bays.
Crank centreline height a maximum of 24"
Minimum wheelbase of 92" - However cars with shorter wheelbases (such as Pops) were allowed but only with unblown smallblocks
Body heigh can be reduced by a maximum of 4" (i.e a chop, section, channel etc)
Convertibles must have the top up and an extra roll bar
Seats a max of 4" rearward from original position
From 1968 you could use a custom box section frame in some classes and for monocoque cars
In 1969 they reduced the wheelbase limit to 90" which allowed people to fit blown big blocks into pops.
There are also weigh breaks but obviously they don't apply for a street car.

This "Crank centreline height a maximum of 24" is that to stop the front being rasied too high for weight transfer?

HeneryHirise is alive and kicking, Was in the care of a mate of mine for years until very recently, as far as I'm aware was sold to finance his Gasser Hemi Fordson, Cobblers Ian, no offence! It would appear that the legend that is Henry goes from strength to strength, Keith still owns the car & has done for at least 16 years. It now runs a full chassis, something it never had originally contrary to popular belief, a 6/71 blown 454 big block Chevy, its original tube front axle & '57 9" Ford rear on original ladder bars. The body has been rebuilt as time hadn't been too kind to it. It's now at the stage where it needs paint, exhaust, wiring & plumbing to make it drive again. It is for sale but Keith's fed up with all the wannabe owners that tell you how they'd kill to own it 'till you mention it's for sale, then you never hear from them again. Anyone that's serious will be able to find contact details for him.
