What was the standard UK reg plate font, before all this Charles White ANPR spycam-friendly nonsense came in? It looks like the modern font but is slightly wider. Grateful for any pointers as to where I can get them too

Thanks guys, but neither of them seem to offer the font I'm after. They're like the plate sported by this fine example of a Metro Jet Black... It's a bit wider than the modern lettering.

It's apparently still called "Charles Wright" - the new one is "New Charles Wright" which is the thinner one. However pre-2001 there was a bit of a blind eye taken to non-standard fonts, if it was readable and unambiguous then they let it roll - hence the Serck font. Austin Rover plates also seem to use a slightly modified font a lot of the time too.

I asked a plate maker "Is that New Charles Wright font?" and he looked blankly at me! ;D I think I know a place in Lincoln that will make one in the Charles Wright font. Trouble is, after I've seen a few fonts I sort of get confused by them all! ;D

I got my new plates last week, and he got as near to the old font as he could (fecking computer graphics), they look ok, but there not really what I wanted (charactor sizing and spacing issues) so i'd be interested to know if somedody else can do them.
The pair i've got will do for the MOT but there not what I wanted

www.charles-wright.com/homeset.htmlIt should be made illegal for anyone to use any font for anything without first showing a legitimate artistic license to the vendor. [edit] I've got this typeface It's called Mandatory and was a slight mod to the Charles Wright font.
