Hi everyone! What a great forum! You guys are great! As my username suggests, I am troubled with fondness for Imps (and derivatives). I own a 1966 Singer Chamois with a full-house 930cc motor with Webers, R21, ATB exhaust, six-point cage, buckets, harnesses, etc., etc. There is a long, LONG story behind how this car came to be, but I shan't try to recount it here! Anyway, it is away for paint, but I intend to have it on the road for the Spring. Maybe a bit of sprinting and speed hillclimbing action too...? Cannot wait! ;D ;D My other project is a 1975 Triumph Stag, which I've owned since I was 16. Okay, okay! Don't laugh! This is my long-termer - I've only had it 16 years this year! It's going to be more-or-less standard, apart from a few, very subtle upgrades. It awaits a bit more welding, painting and rebuilding, as and when time and funds permit. I have got a lot of the parts for it already, though... It'll be nice when it's done... Honest! The daily hack is a 1997 Vauxhall Omega Elite, bought last April. It is a great car! It has been reliable so far, is quiet and refined, but is quick enough to be FUN!! I am going to wire in a switch to disable traction control, though. It is almost impossible to go any way but straight on at present! Lot of car for 3 grand! I am always going on about "My favourite car is...!" The truth is, I love interesting motors. A decent Imp, standard or modded, a Capri V8, a Super 7 (or clone), a Ferrari 250 GTO... all hold a fascination for me! I'd be dangerous if I had real money!! My ultimate? Depends on which day of the week you ask! Probably a replica of a Cobra, either 427 or 289 FIA. Or maybe a Frontline Spridget with 190bhp... What's your story? Later! I'm

It's great to know that there are so many modded classic fans out there, as well as the ordinary classic fans! I shall post some pix of my cars as soon as I get it back from the painters. Meanwhile, I shall scan what I've got already and put 'em up in the next few days. Meanwhile, tell me about your retro-rides!!

There was some interest in my Staggy plans! Well... She'll be subtly modified. I think a Holley carb conversion to replace the Strombergs - worth about 15-20 bhp, apparently - would be a good start. With tubular exhausts too (stainless of course!), should be good for 180 bhp and nice noises! Probably the brakes could do with upgrading. Monarch offers 4-pot vented fronts and disc rears (replacing drums). Stags already have a servo, which is fine. I'll polybush the suspension and install adjustable rate shock absorbers - Spax or Gaz, but maybe Koni. Need to investigate! Then the wheels. I quite like the standard design, but also fancy Superlites/Compomotives, perhaps Revolution 5-spokes. Others have also been used to good effect. Shan't go too low on tyre profiles, but 15-inch instead of 14-inch should be okay and, with other mods, really sharpen up the (already good) handling a treat! Maybe a decent, not OTT ICE system - again, subtle. Then again, that Triumph V8 sounds soooo nice!!! Modernisation will be carried through into headlamps, with Cibies or Wipacs replacing the standard Lucas units. Perhaps an uprated alternator too, if necessary. I need to get mine reconditioned or exchanged anyway. That's about all. As I said, subtle is the key! Stags don't need much... although there is a 550 bhp smallblock Chevy-engined Stag in existence! Mmmmm. Not too much Stag left in that, though!! I do have some pix of Tony Hart's (of Hart Racing Services) 1970s Modsports Stag somewhere. I'll post 'em if I can find 'em! 270 bhp from a Webered Stag engine - with reliability!!!! Now that WOULD be too cool!! HRS also do a manifold allowing Rover V8 injection to be mated onto a Stag motor too. Now where's that credit card....... ;D I'm

Mmmm, an injected stag engine....
Thats a great idea to make such a manifold. I'm sure its not so difficult to do that kind of stuff. My plan is to fit a Rover SD1 with a Honda 2.7 V6 engine. To do this I will need to make/modify a bellhousing. I was going to do this by using the rearmost half of the SD1 bellhousing with the forwardmost-half of the Honda one, welded together. But even doing this will require loads of careful measuring, machining, jigging up, ally welding etc.
So I’ve been thinking that once the measuring is done its gotta be pretty easy to knock up a few CAD drawings or even a 3D model of such a bellhousing. I have a design engineer mate who’s offered to do it at his work, he can model it up then give me an IGES file or something, that any competent foundry can use to machine a soft resin casting tool with practically no human input, just machining time.
Then each bellhousing would have to be skimmed up front and back and drilled/tapped but that’s only 2 machining ops.
Obviously once I had gone this far I would need to make a few bellhousings and flog em to cover costs. But I think this would be possible, and it would allow the Honda V6 to be fitted to SD1’s, TR7’s, triumph 2000s, Stags or any rear wheel drive thing really by using the Rover 77mm box.
There must be a few people around who would be tempted by that, it’s a beautiful engine and sort of ‘in the family’ for BL products.
Anyway I cant do anything till I’ve got the bits around me which will not be till late February at the earliest, but its food for thought.

Hey there, Mr. B! The guy that's doing the Imp paintwork and bodywork has been building racing and rally cars all his life. He has told me in the past that - when I was hunting for a sensible modern motor - that the Honda V6 was not a great engine and that the Rover V6 actually is!! I was !! That is the opposite of what I had thought, but he was adamant! Just one guy's opinion, I guess. Bearing in mind Honda's reputation for engines, though, I reckon their V6 must be pretty hot stuff! Injection can't be all that difficult to install or set up, I reckon. So many folks offer excellent services these days and all the kit is available off the shelf. As for my Stag, it's gotta be Triumph V8 all the way!!! The noise... oh, the noise...!! Great to hear from you! I'm
