i remember RR a few years back, there was me, christoff, benzboy, optimusprimer and dez, who had them. now every one has or wants one, in some way shape or form. its not just on RR either. looking at ebay the prices are creeping up. have the masses discovered how cool they are? this is not good for me as ive been outbid on 4 cars in as many weeks,3 of which didnt even reach reserve, 2 500 sec's, a fintail and a 280ce i simply don't have enough money, and ive got 2.6k burning a hole!!!!! ive never had as much trouble getting a merc. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Have you not seen this ONE yet then? Was pointed out on another thread, very sexy for a fair price as well. Although I've just seen your location, guess it would be a bit of a long drive from you though!

I had my Benz for six years now, and when I bought it I knew its value would creep up. They're comfy, fast, have excellent parts supply (and prices, unless you're looking for 15in hubcaps ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ) and look the lick. Everyone was scared by the badge when I was looking for my W123 - MB = cash money to buy new, so surely they've got to be expensive to run, right? After a while my mates realised that I was paying about 2/3s the price for my parts. And my car looked/drove/felt better. I guess people are beginning to cotton on. There sure are a lot of Merc noobs appearing on RR.

I grew up in germany so seeing all these lovely 3 pointed barges about used to just be common place, now that i can get good quotes on insurance and have a well payed job etc etc why wouldn't i want to be rollin in something as sexy and as chubby provoking as a luxurious german barge?

I don't want a merc. Anything that doesn't have near solid suspension and a pointable front end just seems wrong to me. Even beamers are far too barge like for me.
I think maybe people are catching on to how happily they run on SVO?

i had my first stack light probably 15 years ago, always knew i'd get another one some time, i probably got reminded of it by seeing them on here i guess, but to be honest i rarely keep my cars long, i'll usually own one long term vehicle and others will come and go around it, theres just toooo many things i wanna drive. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

If something looks right, it quite often is right. The W123 looks right to me.

I'm a relative beginner compared to some of you lot. My benz love started around '02 at uni, with this: ![](http://img2013.photobox.co.uk/93010357dc44d0b04cd20b19f50d34b38625c3b8a8b0cc76c9ffe425bc851a5c07500c96.jpg) My Grandad had a 115 years ago a 123 saloon and coupe a 126 and a 190 (Cant remeber the cahssis code for that one) His 123 coupe was a 230, and was absolutely perfect, cream with cream leather, five speed manual and air con. My Nan likes it a lot that I have an old merc simmilar to his. (She even lets me park my spares car on her drive.) Nan and Grandad used to take us out shopping at the weekend and I always remember his cars being big solid things and feeling very safe. Over the last couple of years 123's, 126's and 114/115's have been all over the classic mags. Last months Classic and Sportscar had a guide to the 123 range.

About time too tbh. I've often suggested Mercs are sleeping giants in the price stakes and for some reason, as you have said, they're catching on now. The last couple of years have seen some amazingly cool old ones go for peanuts on eBay but as you say they're 'getting there' now. I still reckon you'd get something really smart for the money you have if you shop round a bit though.

I had a 230CE a few years back.... ![](http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f387/cmpod83/picture002-2.jpg) ![](http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f387/cmpod83/picture005-1.jpg) And i had a 2.5 16 Before that. TBH I wasn't 'looking' for anther, i just kinda spotted my 500 and it went from there. And for £100 i wasn't gonna argue. I just think they are damn cool though, and if you get the right era (anything before 1990) you can be sure that it has been over-engineered to within an inch of it's life so you know it ain't gonna break. I think the same can be said for all retro stuff to be honest. I'm always on the net looking for old motors & have noticed a rise in prices.

LOL Funny this has shown up, I was looking at a W123 last night to buy as a winter toy/smoker. However it had more in common with a pile of rust than a car.
The reason I went to look at one, was simply becuase finding a late cortina in reasonable shape to do the same job was a nightmare esp the price, so logically this was the best move and I have scrapped the tina idea totally now.

If you look at Germany, it's had a massive Benz scene for years and years. Prices don't seem to have been affected that much. There are more Benz owners now on RR... I think when I joined up I was the only one! ;D But I don't see that as anything but a good thing. I think you've just been unlucky TCC. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
