Does anyone on here know where I can get a sticker of my reg plate made for the trailer, to stick on, for when I tow it with the daily. Once the bus is registered and insured etc, I will make a seperate slip in bracket for a real old style plate on it. Similar to what trucks with interchangeable trailers use.
Regular plates are about £10 each, so it has to be the same or a lot less, otherwise I will just go the regular route.

Cool , thanks Pog,
I did think of robbing the plate of my bike trailer which is residing over in Tilbury, Essex, but that would entail a 60 mile round trip which is already £9 plus £2 for Tollbridge and tunnel. So more than a new plate made up.
May just have a spare made up, liek the idea of sticky plate though.

Yes, reflective. Not as much so as a proper one, but does the job. Still use a conventional plate on my diddy trailer though (held on with cable ties).

If I'm tugging a trailer that I don't have a plate for I unscrew the back plate from the car and fit that to the trailer......as long as you remember to re-fit it afterwards!

You can run a different plate on a trailer to the tow vehicle, as long as both plates are for vehicles registered in your name.

need to be same as the tow car but as most people borrow trailers it doesnt much be done exactly. I got a tug and a telling off once for using a trailer bearing a different plate from the car. Just a ticking off, cos I was going half a mile to the tip and the one on the car was still visible, but a tug all the same.

I'll think you'll find it is true -as long as both are registered to you. That way there is no attempt to deceive if you commit an offence. i was told this -by VOSA & feds when pulled 6 months back -precisely cos the plates differed. Once PNC'd -i was on my way -with a polite request to sort it.

We don´t have this problem over here, is it or is it not allowed?
All trailers/caravans have seperate insurance and road tax over here and have their own numberplate and logbook.
It doesn´t cost much, my car transporter costs about 60quid a year but they also have to go to the TÜV (MOT) every two years.

I would have said that was complete tosh but thinking bout it if you own both vehicles the plate can be traced back to you either way... Saying that if you were caught on a gatso camera the speeding ticket would have the wrong tow vehicle on, the numberplate may be from a vehicle that isnt insured/motd/taxed. Theres plenty of scope for confusion and trouble. Its certainly not a law ive heard of before, id be very interested to hear more about it.
