Can't remember who originally posted it and my Search Skillz0rz are sadly lacking (as is my ability to speak da lingo). So, here for your viewing pleasure are some very early Cavalier shots, including the very first - which is a 2 door! Many thanks to Andy King, Mk2 Cav brainbox extraordinaire for the shots. I'll have more info tomorrow as it's on my work PC. Duh! EDIT - the info: The first is of the production line 2 door – the first cav from the Luton line The second is a random 82 sales image from a Vauxhall publication discussing the cars overnight success. The third is the procession of “WPP” Cavaliers

Woah! I think these have all but disappeared - can't remember the last time I saw one, even though they rusted less than their rival the Sierra. There was a bloody lovely Mk2 SRi in the local scrapyard - really tidy looking. Don't know what happened to it though, hope someone rescued it.
Weird that the 1st Mk2 Cav off the production line was a 2 door... I don't think I've ever seen one!

yup they do, super rare though. I know someone who has one but its uber-rusty. Seem to remember they barely sold and so the shells were used to make the convertibles, but that may just be a random rumour. BTW super cool 2 door (at least, I think its a 2 door!) Never did find a better pic of this

I think all the 2-doors were 1300's. At least, all the ones I ever saw were.

I had a Mk2 2dr and it was a 1300, IIRC the 2dr's were aimed at the reps.

I believe the vast majority of 2-doors went to HM Armed Forces where they were used as staff cars. Used to be quite common to see them round here, always black and with military xx-xx-xx registrations.

Dollywobbler rocks, ace pic's fella! Early two doors indeed getting rare now. The ultimate model for me though has to be the 1.6SR, learned to drive in one of those and loved it. Alas they're rarer than two door saloons now I think. The Calibre version was a cool car (imho) and another rarity now, mostly due to the fact they liked to rot underneath the kit plus chavs/boy racers nicking them for the kits, interiors and engines. Mine went from mega tidy to £600 in MOT repairs in the space of about 14 months.

Incidentally, how early did these things go? I co-owned one on an "X"-reg once, very briefly. 'Twas a banana yellow 1.6L Hatch. We bought it on a friday afternoon at tea time for £50, by just after closing time my mate had stuffed it into a ditch. That was a long walk home, 'specially as we were all three sheets to the wind.

I assume X-platers were the first, judging by the banner in this pic... 1/8/81 is X-reg... I think...

Oooh boxy potential indeed! The 2dr Cav is certainly a rare thing but I believe all the convertibles were actually built in Belgium and based on the much more common 2dr Ascona. The Cav was a true world car in a way as the estates were built in Oz!

yeah the estates were Holdens. Once I discovered that it explained why the back lights had always looked 'foreign'!
