Some great stuff there, all GAZes oddly enough, (the first one is a ZIL really but I think they were made by GAZ as well.) These M21s have to be one of the nicest Soviet cars ever built, Especially these later ones with the shark nose grille, more individual and less American than the earlier ones like this Here are some other nice Soviet motors Lada (of course) GAZ Pobeida, the car before the Volga M21, released in 1945, one of the first production saloon cars to feature fully enclosed bodywork, amd amazingly it came before the similar Pug 203 saloon and Standard vanguard, despite the belief that most Russian cars were copies of Western cars. And also availible as an off roader, a long time before Volvo and Audi came up with jacking up the body and sticking all wheel drive in a family car to create an off roader! Here's a UAZ 469, the Red Army's take on the Land Rover, Looking slightly overloaded! They still make these things for the civilian market, as the UAZ Hunter. I know I've said this before, but I'd still like to put the GAZ V8 as fitted into the Chaika into the much lighter and better handling Volga M21, it wouldn't be too bad for the handling anyway, the Volga normally has a 4 cynlinder, but it's all cast iron and very heavy since it was so overengineered that the block must be about a foot thick in places!, ;D ;D a Chaika V8 is all alloy and quite light, so I'd imagine that with a bit of slamming and some nice wideish wheels and good tyres on (the slamming shouldn't be too hard, the back has leaf springs, so removing a leaf or putting in lowering blocks should work, at the front coil springs, which a lot of you are experts at cutting down so no problem there, not advanced for a car that was made until 1970, but it coped well with Russia's curse word quality roads. (I probably wouldn't slam it too much, the roads around here are little better! Have you seen the state of the M8?! ;D ;D) See what I mean about the fairly simple construction of the Volga, great for a home restorer, nothing too advanced or clever here, although the early models had a pedal down next to the clutch that you pressed to distribute grease to various parts of the chassis when you felt it needed it, which sounds like an easy, fast and convenient way to lubricate the chassis, never mind lying underneath looking for grease nipples, but the thing was that apparently it more often than not just squirted the grease all over the ground, not on the car where it belonged!

I see it, it does look a bit rude from a distance! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Sort of looks like " V O D K A " as well, which is appropriate for a Russian car! ;D ;D

The J.Clarkson/Lada incident that sticks in my mind is the time Clarkson & his cohorts took that Lada to Lotus who turned it into a beautiful(yes,it looked fantastic) track munching monster. That was class!

I don't think that one won the Monte, but it did enter it. The clockwork orange car is well cool (and it's Imp engined I think! )
