possible?
I'm off to look at that t-bird later today but I'm not expecting it to be worthwhile.
so whats 60s, 70s, or even early 80s maybe, which has the right wheels driven, only the two pedals, and enough torque to scortch its Dunlops from here to the chip shop. Oh, and doesn't cost like £7K, £10K, £15K for a nice one.
Thoughts already had (but unable to locate via eBay, Findit, etc.) would be 3rd gen Camaro, Firebird, "Fox" Mustang, that T-bird... Lee's dad's old XJS (although I'm not sure that really appeals) and apparently theres a Jensen Interceptor in Ilkeston which just needs a little welding for the MOT @ £1700. Hmmm.....
Target price is £1500- £2500 really.

Agree with the XJS. Always fancied one but never had the berries to take one on. Have memories of a metallic blue one with cream leather and the lattice alloys from when I had my fiesta.
Can you get the 4 litre for that budget??
What about the SEC Merc coupes? Should get a useable one for that amount??

Could you get a wedge-shaped TVR for that money? No spazmatic gearbox, but who wants that anyway?
The Jensen sounds very good.. very rare car. I would consider that worth taking on, even if it does need a lot of TLC.

TVR Wedge, what a left-field suggestion! Good one! I do want an auto though. Although I'm sure they did the Tasmin with an auto.
I have known a few people who have owned Jensens and a cheap Jensen to buy is an expensive Jensen to own. A mate just spent £450 on a fuel sender for his... The stuff thats not Chrysler on it is made from Unobtainium and priced accordingly. But sweet cars. I drove one and its just the thing I'd like.

Personally, I would always go down the modification route with something stupidly expensive to buy bits for.
In the example of the fuel sender.. £450 would have bought a racing fuel cell, with sender and mounting brackets, a new period fuel gauge.
Or £5 for a potentiometer of the same value as the standard one, and some hardware to adapt it to hook up to the standard float.
There are old car owners out there that get by without a single spare part being available, by repairing what they can, and adapting bits from other cars to fit.
It seems a suitable method to use with a Jensen.. after all, the standard design is a mixture of parts bought in from many sources. It isn't really out of character to add a few more parents to its already mixed blood.

I agree.
A mate runs a Maserati Merak SS as his everyday car. The clutch went; after being shocked by the price from Bill McGrath Maserati he took the worn plate to a friendly factors... after a couple of hours and a couple of cups of tea he walked away with an Iveco Van plate that was identical... Of course the specialist said it wouldn't work - but he's done 30k miles since on it without issue.
There are a lot of horsefeathers spoken by certain specialists with expensive stock inventories IMHO.

Lexus LS400? Maybe a bit new... plenty of power there and all slushboxes I believe. I love 'em. 560SEC or SEL, or 500SL swingermobile. BMW 750iL would be nice - loads of car for the money. I agree with parts adaptation... I don't think parts prices for Jensens would put me off. Merc prices are sometimes too expensive for me, so a quick snoop around a Ford or Volvo down the scrappy yields something I can adapt.

Speaking of parts being expensive, MG have just put all thier prices for panels up by 8%.
I am the same when it comes to small body sections, I have created a whole midget inner sill out of a NOS MGB Valence.
I would of said a 80s Zimzimmer would do the job, but if it were me the Jenson would have to be looked at first.

Triumph 2500 PI has a fair bit of scoot and a sound to match. Not a big-block though by any stretch of the imagination.......
Stag's good fun but in that price range it'll be a dog - even with an RV8.
I'm having similar troubles finding something as you describe at the moment too.
IHMO an Interceptor will never require 'a little welding'. They have very complicated bodies and are never, ever simple to fix or put right proprely. All double and triple skinned affairs IIRC.
I certainly wouldn't buy one for less than 3k, at least...only if it were running, driving and T&T'd and in useable condition. I think anything else would be financially unsound. I looked at a few that were ~4k and even those......put me off somewhat.
XJS would be good fun though.......and in the right price range.
Various BM's.........
Daimler double six.....

I reckon i've seen that Jjensen Interceptor about a month ago. Well there was a faded red, tatty Interceptor parked outside a pub in Beeston....... Can't image there are two ropey Interceptors in such close proximaty! I didn't have a camera so no pics. Get the Jensen, it ROCKED!

The obvious one... Senator 24v. Cheap to buy. Excellent economy . Can smoketh its tyres like the billy-o. Good handling. Big. Fun. Against: tyres are expensive. Rust. Dodgy switchgear. Rust. Otherwise, WINNER
