Well my MGB is slowly getting waterproofed from the elements but now the time has come to put the front screen in as the rear one is in. Rear was a little bit of a struggle but after some ingenuity it went in all fine and dandy in the end .
Now I am about to put the front screen in which on an MGB GT curves around. It locks into place like the rear using a seal with a locking strip. I thought I would get a local glass fitter to do it but £90 + VAT and no guarantee against the screen getting smashed has made me rethink that decision.
So, how hard is it compared to the rear, and what tips can you give for putting it back in?
Car in question is a 1979 MGB GT.

plenty of lube on the seal (not fairy liquid, its salty and you don't want it trapped next to the steel) Last time I did a seal on a mini, I used lard. Seemed a good idea at the time, and was all i could find to hand really and was plenty slippy, but jeez what a mess it made! There are special tools available for putting in the final strip, but I did it with a flat screwdriver and my thumb without too much hassle.

Use a decent length of para cord run all the way round the seal groove, cross the ends over and use wd40 liberally, get a mate jo just aply gentle pressure then work round with the chord pullin inwards to the car once round one corner go the other way should be dead easy. ;D

Winter isnt the best time to do it, the rubber goes hard when its cold. A bucket of really hot water, and/or a hairdryer will help.
The tools for putting in the locking strip are pretty curse word, they bend very easily, and are not quite the right shape either. Don't buy one unless you are really struggling.
Windscreens are a 2 man job as well. One to hold or push the glass, and another to deal with the seal.

Bit of an old thread I admit (sorry for bumping it), but I thought I would say thanks for your advice. With the help of two others, we got the windscreen in within 30 minutes. For guys who do not wish to pay someone to put it in, it is definately worth a shot. Use plenty of lube (I used water with baby Shampoo), another pair of hands at least, and most of all, patience. With your wits kept about you it is not the hardest job to do .
