Does anyone know of what cars had the petrol tank filler hidden behind a hinged sprung loaded rear number plate?
I know my parents old Volvo 66 (DAF) had one but these dissapeared from scrapyards years ago. Are there any newer altrernatives?
The reason I am asking is I've just purchased an LPG kit for my Cortina and wish to hide the unsightly gas filler behind the rear plate. I was hoping to find a donor car with a sprung loaded plate assy I can use before I start messing around making my own.
Cheers for any help.
Regards, Smiler.

Gee. How about a late 70's, early 80's Chevy Malibu. If all else fails, could easily find one over here and ship. JD

Cheers folks. If I found a Zephyr/Zodiad down the breakers I'd try to get the whole car! ;D Though I should be able to find a suitable VW transporter to nick one from, cheers! As for shipping over a chevy bit, if I get stuck I'll get in touch. Thanks guys.

Peugeot 404, some 1970s Holdens, 1979-1988 Ford Falcons ( might be hard to get one of those over there though). My Pug 403 has one better, the left hand tail light reflector flips up to reveal the filler neck!

That's a new one on me. Think I'll stick to the flip down number plate though. Thanks for the other car to add to the list.

Ford Corsairs had them as well...... not many of those in the scrappy either

... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.
