My MOT is due some time next month. Along with a bazillion things I need to sort out to get it passable, I also have the worry of actually being able to get it MOT'd in the first place. The problem is lowness. Well... no actually. The problem is the high-ness of the tester's equipment. We all know there's no such thing as too low! I've lowered it further since my last MOT. Getting on the ramps could be circumvented by taking some wood with me, but what's really troubling me is the brake test. When the wheels are sat on that roller I'm in no doubt that I'll be touching the ground. INSTANT FAIL I dare say. So... I'm calling out to all of you guys with similarly impractically low automobiles! What do you lot do?

Bag it so you can lift it up at MOT time?

You might have to bite the bullet and raise the suspension for the MOT then drop it again???

1.- find a test centre with a pit instead of ramps. funnily enough, they're usually the oldschool places who cant afford to upgrade to ramps who are fine with mot-ing old cars.
2.- get them to use the pentiometer to test the brakes on the road. all test centres have to have one,t ehyre for doing the brake test on 4x4s.

What clearance have you got around the rear? The volvo was dropped a fair bit - yet made it onto the rollers fine without any scraping at all.

You might have to bite the bullet and raise the suspension for the MOT then drop it again??? The shame! ;D Perhaps so... although I'd need to find new springs for the front and they're pricey. Maybe those spring assisters could be used but I don't know how legal that is on the front of a car. And bags... I would if I could afford it! I'd do a lot of things to that car if I had the money...

Ah, fantastic! That's ideal. So, garage with pit and "on the road" testing gear. I shall begin the search. Thanks a lot fellas - what would I do without this place?!

My old Herald's tyres were too wide for the rollers so the test centre took me out for a drive with a gadget on board (the pentiometer Dez mentioned, I guess) instead.

Thinking about it, when I had LNK MOT'd the guy didn't even bother trying the rollers as he didn't want to risk damaging the car (it's only on montes!) so he did the road test, it's actually quicker than the rollers anyway - at least it was for LNK. (LNK is the white Imp in my sig')

imo if it doesnt have a pit then its not a garage.
yeah f for whatever reason the test equipement cant be used then it reverts back to the old school way.
a friend of mine took his tuned scooby to his local garage and they're rollers had broken so he got one of the test meters and hooned it across a carpark then slammed on.

mine has a sunken ramp its lovely ;D and the front end on the brake rollers made the crossmember sit on the floor so he did the brakes with his cordless brake tester gadget thing that sit on the steering wheel

You shouldn't put a scooby on rollers anyway... winds up the centre diff and kills it. Theres story after story on scoobynet about incompetent testers killing diffs on 4x4 cars.

Hmm. It's sat on the rear bumpstops as the springs I have in are fairly ineffective. I'll trim a few coils off my original rear springs for that one I think. I think I *just* get away without any tyre rubbing, on a flat surface. Just... ;D I've got a few patches to weld, exhaust to legalise, carb to tune, possibly a balljoint to do, and maybe even a windscreen . I hate old cars ;D

Our mot ramp is set into the ground, so we can get slammed cars on it, my ashtray goes on it and the front splitter is about 1cm of the floor, but its all the way down yer Devon.
