I put my compomotive wheels on ebay, reserve price a lot less than I was asking on the forums. Had 63 watchers, and 1400 views, however it was well off the reserve when they finished. However in another auction a set of RS 4 spokes are going for £270 with 3 days left, with no tyres. Is it just the OSF lot who are scared of doing something slightly different? Matt Just after Christmas, selling is slow. To be fair the RS 4 spokes are getting rare. We are talking about Genuine RS Alloys (not Capri Laser Alloys). Many people have been ripped off paying RS alloy money for Capri Laser alloys, there is a big difference. People do advertise Capri Laser alloys on Ebay as RS alloys. If anyone wants a guide to spotting a fake, PM me.

i think it is down to getting more twonks buying on ebay. i sold some of my leather to a guy before christmas,he was the winning bidder on one piece and asked me to do him a price on another because he 'forgot' to bid on the other bit he wanted.(all listed by the same seller at the same time,if he bid one one why not the other?) so i did .my pc then went kaput for 6 days largley due to parcel farce not picking up the new bit.i emailed him and apologised for the delay and said that if he let me know by x day if he wanted any of the other bits i would send them out with the other 2 and not charge any extra postage.he never replied,so i sent out the 2 he paid for and heard nothing for a while until i got an email asking where the third piece was? the week he emailed me was a bad bad week,i had to go to london and back in a day (500 miles) to collect my mum (my dad died last crimbo),my neice was rushed into hospital with suspected meningitis,my nephew got mugged on a bus (his mate was stabbed to death on a bus the week before) and to top it off the swmbo gran died christmas eve,my head was in a whirl and i had other things on my mind.he emailed me right in the middle of it chasing his third piece.i couldnt reply i was in no fit state to think about it.next thing i know hes launched a paypal claim !!! wtf!!! its only been 3 days since he emailed me.i emailed him back and let him know what had happened, and offered 2 solutions to resolve the issue, did he email me back ? did he fook! he escalated the claim and now i have had to give the curse word a refund all because he cannot be bother to respond to emails but because i hadnt hes thrown his teds out .curse word.

My experience of ebay selling is that reserves put people off. A debate I had with my wife when we sold our Mondeo. I set the reserve at £600 (at her insistence) and it just made it. With no reserve I reckon it would have been up to about £800.

if you sell anything worth real money on ebay don't use paypal
its just not nice when paypal take £300+ out of your current account without even consulting you

I only use paypal as a last resort these days after people tried getting money off me. I sold a coat for £50 to a woman in scotland. 3 weeks later she said it hadn't arrived so I arranged to send the proof of postage to her. She asked me to send it to a different address, and then asked me to return her money to another address.
Once i'd pointed out that she'd given me 3 different addressses and I had the proof of postage the coat was suddenly delivered 5 weeks after I sent it and she dropped the claim.

I agree with a lot of peoples selling tactics, though I did get really gazumped a few months back starting low W/O reserve for reasons stated. It doesn't seem as sharp as it was for selling, it could be seasonal, but I also believe its cos people realise items are on there all the time despite, in the past being rare, but even then it'd have a fair price tag in the back of car mags. I caught caught up in bidding on wheels brand new in box x4 Compo ML's 15x8's went for £400, and some Revo 5 spokes same size, used for £365 and that was 2 weeks before xmas, so I guess the oldskoolers are buying other stuff too.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Funny old place eBay. My Metro made it into eBay Pulse *(a sort of display of the most watched items at the time), had somewhere around 4,000 hits, 76 watchers and the bidding just cracked reserve. Even the Manta allloys I listed had a huge amount of watchers for a set of wheels but crashed and burnt on the reserve side of things.
As an intended constructive criticism of your listing (i.e I'm not having a go or trying to offend) then private listings never get anywhere near their potential because people are suspicious. Bidding id gets hidden over £100 anyway and I always think that it's a sign of schill bidding and never so much as put one bid on. I'm not for a moment saying you have schillers on your stuff but people really will think that you have by having a private listing.
