I put my compomotive wheels on ebay, reserve price a lot less than I was asking on the forums. Had 63 watchers, and 1400 views, however it was well off the reserve when they finished.
However in another auction a set of RS 4 spokes are going for £270 with 3 days left, with no tyres.
Is it just the OSF lot who are scared of doing something slightly different?

the OSF lot 'are' scared to death of doing different things, mainly because that scene is full of mid 40 YO guys who want to remember there youth, as opposed to mid 20's who want to be ahead of the game.
what compomotives were they?

Hey I sold all sorts of Mini-related stuff some time back and some of it went for ridiculous money. Even a really tatty and bent set of kickplates!

Maybe it was just me but I found the ad a little confusing as to what was included and what wasn't.All the updates didn't help. It will be interesting to see if the other set that are on E-bay sell or not. No offence meant btw, just a personal observation. cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=290194580768

how much was your reserve? they were at 200quid last time i saw them which is good for a set of compos! mine cost me 100quid with tyres and were 13x7s.
If you ask me your just asking too much money!!

private bidding, reserve and too many updates have killed this auction - why not simply start at the price you want? - then you either sell them or not
they look cracking wheels though

I always found "start at the price you want" = no bids
I found starting low (usualy £1) and having a low reserve, or no reserve, got the best money.
That said I've found eBay has got odd to sell on of late. Stuff which used to fly out the door now doesn't sell at all or sells for next to nothing. I had a bunch of original owners manuals, the type you got in the glovebox when you bought the car new. Anyway, you used to be able to shift them all day long for £3- £15 depending on make, model, condition. I listed a dozen various 1960s and 1970s ones plus some original 1970s sales brochures (about a dozen of them) and the listing fees came to more than what I sold. I sold a pair of Mk2 Cortina ones and that was it. I even have a uber rare HA Viva fatory training manual (tells dealers how to service the new HA when it comes out). Unsold, no bids

Try finding 13x8s though slater. I've had about 10 sets of 13x7s they're everywhere. 13x8s are practically non existent.
The updates annoyed me too I got bidders really quickly so couldn't just edit the original listing.

i think with ebay you used to be able to get bargains, then the nature of the site took over and people began paying over the odds for the bits they wanted, sellers aware of this put on over inflated reserves and now you see a lot of reserves just not been realised, 13x7s are everywhere so people will use these as they are cheap, and not pay over the odds to be that much diffrent

I sell a fair bit of car parts on ebay, and to be honest most of the stuff goes for a good price. I pretty much always start my auctions at 99p, and I never put a reserve on. But, I only list stuff that I pretty much know will sell, or that I don't mind selling for a quid! ;D
I find that reserves put people off bidding, as it makes people think that they aren't going to get a bargain.

just because stuff is rare dosent mean it is worth money tho! Its wether they are more desirable that relly matters, which imo they are not, or at the very most fairly equal!
Fact remains reserve was too high! Ebays pretty much the best market place you will get, or at least the one with the maximum exposure! I mean you want a set of wheels, first place you look is ebay everytime. You might not buy straight away but if I dicided tomorrow I neeed a set of 13x8 compos I'm not going to go out and buy a yellow ads on the off chance there might be a set in there I'm just going to type it into the computer for free, in a matter of seconds. Granted its not the same for everything but for pretty much all 2nd hand car parts it is.
From that you can pretty much conclude that you will get the maximum price people are willing to pay for whatever your selling at that moment in time and thats its value!
Fair play you want to get the most for them you can but to set a reserve at that amount of money is never going to work! Reserves allways kill auctions anyway for reasons above..

I sell car parts all the time on ebay.I never use a reserve.Maybe the price was a bit high but also you are trying to sell a item that is a fair bit of money and people have just had Xmas so money will be a bit tight.I never list expensive items a month before or after xmas unless theres a cheap listing day.Give it a month then try them on there again.
