Yep macd's run on on wvo, however not just their own. They also have to buy in due to the sheer volume of WVO needed. I will say to anyone on here look at goat industries or vegtebaleoildiesel.co.uk for info on this. Ive been a member on threr for 4 years now and every diy heater etc you can imagine weve all tried loads of times in the past. If they say something on there i suggest listening to their many years of experiance

I'm all set for running the 406 on veg - still not confirmed what pump it has though - the only serial number i could find points to a bosch brake servo :-) It has a lucas ECU if this is a pointer in anyway. Hopefully it is bosch and then I'm away
then need to find a wholesaler where i can get veg oil in bulk from.
gonna start with 50:50 with no mods and see how it goes, upping it slightly each time. If i can get a good source of oil, will then get a heater installed if needed for cold mornings- what sort of cost do you think this would command. I'm not great under the bonnet :-)

Well, I've bought my biotool, a Merc W123 300D. Going to run on mineral oil for a bit, just to get some benchmark figures before I start introducing it to bio-stuff.

As soon as my dad gets his finger out and gets his new A4, I will be getting his 306 (with bosch pump) for my daily so I will be trying this soon!
On the subject of pre-heaters, whats the best way to go about this diy/uber cheap style?

I'm now running the Xantia on SVO, currently running about 75% veggie. Seems to be Ok so far, but only done a few hundred miles. I need to change the fuel filter soon, as well as doing an oil change.

I tried my 99 transit on svo and it killed it dead, turned out it was the wrong pump, £1700 mistake as it took all the injectors with it! not impressed!
I now make my own biodiesel and sell oil testing (titration) kits on ebay. we currently have a biodiesel processor under development that we will be flogging on ebay, selling for about £300, a damn site cheaper than the nearest one at a grand! so if anyone fancies biodiesel and got questions please ask

All 406's come with a Bosch pump ;D As from where from, ive tried all the wholesalers routes etc. Still find myself embarrasing myself in Asda/Sainsburs/Tesco (whichever is doing a deal that week) If you shop about they sometimes have it for 45-50p a litre. Just buy tons of it Also another trick in this cold weather is to have a pint bottle of vegetable oil outside in the driveway. In the morning before work just check it. Once it starts getting cold you will see it start to thicken up, then is the time to start changing the mix ratio's I'm all set for running the 406 on veg - still not confirmed what pump it has though - the only serial number I could find points to a bosch brake servo :-) It has a lucas ECU if this is a pointer in anyway. could you run the fuel line around the exhaust manifold, so that the exhaust pre-heats the derv.

I wonder if a simple thing like copper pipe round the manifold might help, tricks like running pipe round the rad hose to heat the washer jets works, so I can't see why it wouldn't assist.
Only worry is that it might get too hot. You might need some kind of insulator between the fuel hose and the manifold to stop overheating and to store the heat to even out the exchange.

How about making a pre-heater that uses the engine oil as the heat source? It heats up quicker than the coolant, but it is not as dangerously hot as the exhaust manifold.
In fact, you could just buy an oil-water oil cooler, and run the SVO through where the water should go, and wrap it all with some insulation.. job done.

I was always under the impression that coolant heated faster than oil, so that even if the temp gauge is upto normal you still shouldn't rag it for a while because unless you had an oil guage you still wouldn't know if it was hot enough. Nice idea though.

Yup. Oil takes longer to warm up as there's no thermostat. Owning a car with an oil temp gauge can be a very illuminating experience!
Got my experimentation device now - the Merc. Cost over £50 to fill her up with diesel so experiments must start soon! Wasn't going to use cost as the driver but crikey it's a big tank!

I would have thought the very small volume of the engine oil would make it heat up faster?
But either way, an oil cooler would work as a preheat... plumb the water side in as normal, and run the SVO through the oil side.
