We went over to Nikki's nan today to wish her a happy birthday. While there i was asked if i could fix her dining table leg, so went outside to get some tools from the boot and put my keys on the boot floor while i hunted down what i wanted then shut the boot to come back in. curse word. Fortunately this time the story did not end like this: We called swmbo's mum and she drove me home to pic up the spare keys, the journey was uneventful, in the way that only a sterotypical Nissan Micra drivers can be. Sometimes we were doing up to 70mph and we never ventured into fifth! Thanks very much for helping out your muppet son-in-law though Sheila!

WOOPS ! Time for a beer ??! and 70 in fourth in a nissan micra .....!!!>!> i remember being piloted by my gf's grandmother ( of about 80 years of age ) at about 55 mph in 3rd from Watford to Aylesbury. Not at all funny, or safe, or good for a little old micra that looks like a bubble.

that hole is the funniest thing ever ;D ;D ;D did you not just think of jimmying the lock or going through the rear seats? surely replacing a rear bench or lock is easier than a tailgate?
;D ;D ;D I'm still laughing

Aaah, you see, this is why I keep two key sets on me! The keys to whatever car I'm driving, plus the "master keys" set.
Saved me from being locked out of my cars at least 50 times by now.

The locks match and i didnt want to wreak the lock and have to have two keys for the car. b)Rear seats. The condition of the seats is excellent, so i didn't want to damage them, and besides the fule tank is between the seats and the boot. c)Through the boot. The lock is part of the car not the boot, I also knew i had another boot the same colour on my spares car, I also knew it could be removed with four M10 bolts. So I went through the boot lid where i knew it was single skinned. When i cut the hole i couldn't find the keys so panicked a bit then had a bright idea, i dangled my camera through the hole and took a pic of the inside, to see where the keys were. Hirst, liking your idea, but i fear that i'd have even more trouble looking after two sets of keys than i do with one.

i once climbed into the boot of an e34 saloon and went through the middle fold down seat on the rear bench to get the keys stuck in the ignition. the hole, if you don't know, is about 2ft high by 9-10 inches wide. pinchy.

Jeez- why don't you guys just check for your keys before shutting anything car related? I've forced myself into this habit with what started out as over exageratted motions to check the keys are available. It's now second nature.
BTW, I get into "lockout" vehicles at least once a day for my members in my job in an orange van.

Let me guess... BMW anti-hijack locks? Nothing like the sinking feeling as you watch your bavarian beauty sitting idling away on the drive with the doors locked firmly shut, eh? Unless perhaps for my brother, who managed to do the same thing on the hard shoulder of the M25 at 11pm. Knob.

I was once 60 miles from home and out on a date, only to shut the keys in my car. I thought I'd break a window, after all it was only a Hyundai, so I went into a shop, bought a can of beans and hurled them at the window. Oops, the can split open, spewing beans all over my car! .. Best get an expert in! Darn those Happy Shopper beans!

Whilst getting into a TT that had the keys locked in the boot I had to climb through the window, having wound it down (don't ask because i won't tell you how). trouble is, my ribcage is deeper than the opening in a TT's door window. The owner thought it hilarious that I got momentarily stuck whilst entering her car. Bloody painful, and required deflating techniques that Houdini was kinda famous for.

Got in, started the car to warm up, opened the boot, to put stuff in, closed the door, luckily I went to get in the car before she closed the boot and told he it was locked. Luckily I was about 8 so the perfect size to squeeze through the hole in the middle We never did work out why it locked itself. My dad also managed to do it in his 405 SRi. Brand new car, I was 3 months old and sat in the back! Luckily my mum was at home and my dad had his mobile phone with him (1991.... it wasnt something he carried around! ) so he stayed with me and my mum brought the spare keys.

Became an expert at breaking into my Fiesta as I was forever locking my keys in it. 2CVs are much harder to lock yourself out of as you can't lock the front doors from the inside. The only time I did, I fortunately had the boot open so I could unlock the rear seat, tip it up and reach the rear door interior lock. Still not sure how I managed to lock the keys in. I must have opened the door, locked it while it was open and then shut it.
LOL at beans!

i did exactly the same thing with the manta recently. raking around in the boot, grabbed what i wanted then 'slam'. realised i'd left the keys in and my heart sank. i have no experience braking into cars and i was not about to cut a hole in my freshly painted and rare boot lid. my mood improved when i tried my garage door key and found that it opens all the locks on the car and my front door key works the ignition. not sure if this is a good thing or not.

a lot of modern cars have a sneaky way to open a door or tailgate, i dunno if they are like that on purpose or if its just a side effect of more complicated security, some of em are more vunerable than old motors i reckon although you cant usually start them once your in, you CAN usually get in without damaging them.
