Sadly having to sell through ill health my very scruffy but much loved TR as I struggle to drive it now and don't have the energy to continue with its refurb.
The TR7 is a classic that is perfectly capable in modern traffic and huge fun to drive.
Its a very late car, built two days before production ended at Solihull, it has a BMHT Heritage Certificate with all of it's build details and is registered as historic. It was restored about 20 years ago then seems to have gone off the road around 2010 until 2021 when it was MOTd again. I bought it a few months later as a non runner delivered on a trailer, the previous owners saying the problem was probably water in the electrics. He was half right, there was two gallons of it in the fuel tank! So the fun began.
Parts replaced were, The complete ignition replaced with electronic, service kits in both carbs, a new choke cable, new fuel lines and a new sender unit, a wiper motor, washer motor, speedo cable, sorted out a load of play in one headlight mech and a window regulator. Enough to start using it but it still silted up the carbs and the fuel was rust coloured so I replaced the fuel tank complete with new straps and another new fuel line. Finally clean fuel and much improved running but still not quite right. Then it had about 8 months off as I was physically not capable of driving it. During that time I figured that as it has a four branch manifold, stainless exhaust and K&N filters it might have the wrong needles in the carbs. It did, new richer needles and new floats for good measure and now it revs properly. It had a new battery this year as well.
As well as the exhaust and filters, it also had a spin on oil filter conversion and I'm guessing uprated springs during its resto, it's also had a LED lighting upgrade in my ownership.
It's had regular use, at times daily use and I've done 5000 miles in it but its time to move it on.
Today it's looking tired, the paint has not lasted well, the bottoms of the doors have gone again and some of the old welding is functional rather than pretty, that said the shell is still pretty solid. Mechanically it's sound and starts on the button, there are a couple of electrical issues, currently the horn, hazards and fuel guage don't work and the headlight drive cog on the left has broken so the lamps are up for the moment. One of the bonnet hinges needs repairing. I'm guessing the roof was replaced 20 years ago and while it has no tears and the windows are good it has shrunk and some of the stitching has given up. It also has a full tonneau cover.
It's scruffy but usable and could be improved as a rolling rebuild.
Can be viewed in Staplecross, Sussex or Maidstone, Kent
