Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Well last week ended with the small (large) victory of taking a big step forward with re-engineering the Club RR system. It isn't complete yet, but I'm pretty sure at some point this week it will be live and I can turn off the old system. Also I can turn my attention to the inquiries and outstanding things I need to sort for Club RR for 2024... before ordering the 2025 stickers! Everything will be more straight forward next year. Facebook informed me it has been 9 years since I took the Sunny to have the engine checked over as it was running rough after having the engine swap done. Which means it is 9 years since I was informed it was a literal death trap. They weren't being over dramatic either! So that is fun. Maybe it will be out and about next year, finances dependent I suspect. Forum rework is still in progress, has taken a bit of a back seat to the need/desire to get the Retro Rides Events archive gallery stuff sorted before launching next year's events. That may well have a major knock on effect on the forum though, as I want to use it as the basis for a new image gallery system for car shows/events/stuff. Watch this space. Weather seems to be on the turn, and I've still not sorted my garage out. The Porsche is covered in leaves and tree junk now so it needs a wash, but it is raining forever now as far as I can see, not that it matters the garage is full or logs and my car cover seems to have acquired a load of curse word inside it so putting in on the car is barely better than leaving it off....... *sigh* ... any idea how to clean a car cover!?? Weather does seem to be some what, erm, wet. Well it sounds it at least as much as I can tell from being trapped indoors for the last 6 months. Still in the usual position of laying in bed watching life pass me by some what. Still said it here before and will again, reading the threads on this forum makes me smile and keeps me entertained so it is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Had a brief flurry of progress over the weekrnd with the never ending garage tidy. Finally opened the last pallet in the garage from the move nearly 3 years ago, to find up full of stuff I'd decided to sell.
Was going to carry on this evening, but various aches are stopping that.
I need to fix my vans gear selector this week too...

Seem to have sourced a door for the damaged Almera but it needs paint to match the car, decided I'm going to sell the car so swapping the standard wheels back on and getting it as pretty as I can 😂
I've got the Crossfire to daily, but I'd still like to pair it with a barge-y saloon or estate for longer journeys but not much is grabbing my attention at the moment, might have to revive my old bargain barges thread and see what's available in 2024

After getting the keys to the new unit last weekend I made a short list of "priority" jobs, first of which was making sure it doesn't flood. A branch of the Cock Beck runs directly under the unit through culverts, the entrance of which were absolutely jammed with curse word as nobody ever looks after them. I'd already dug the several tons of curse word and silt out of the right hand (primary) one here, if you imagine it looked like the left hand one all the way across bank to bank you'll get the idea. Once I'd dug that one out I found a load of decent blocks/bricks that had been dumped around the place and built the banks up to try and stop it slipping, then dug out the overflow culvert whilst keeping the bed slightly higher so the water mainly runs through the primary culvert. The fall pipe was also dumping into no man's land for whatever reason, which had eroded the bank away. A quick trip to Screwfix for a 45 bend and a piece of pipe I found down the side of the building soon sorted that. I also dug the other end out but didn't take photos. The heavy rain yesterday gave it a good test and all seems great. Fair bit of silt washed out so it needs another dig out but worth the peace of mind.

Was in court yesterday dealing with the curse word that did my Passat over. The smashing up of the car wasn't the reason we were in court it was for harassment with threats of violence. Waiting on the verdict, horrible experience and still feel sick about it.

Working on cars when your brain isn't working is rough. However, had a couple of moments of clarity that coincided with an intermittent issue of overcharging. Princess just has a little analogue gauge with red sections on either end, so it's rather vague. It spend a bit too long to the overcharging end of the gauge and when I got the multimeter on it the alternator was dumping 40v into the battery.
It's since levelled out bar the very occasional spike to 14.5v so I reckon the voltage regulator is on its way out. The alternator on the car is actually cobbled together from two differently broken alternators, something that was done a few years ago. I've bought a new one from a reputable seller I've bought from before which should hopefully fix the problem and was just under £70 delivered which isn't terrible.
I really want to crack on with the other little jobs I want to do on the car but my brain just won't let me. Still waiting for a diagnosis on what's actually wrong, I want to get on with my life and get back to work.

I'd change alt sooner rather than later, while 14.5v is perfectly acceptable not so 40v that'll cook the battery in short order.

slackerTHEpinstriper, I'm sorry to hear about the issues you are having. Hopefully there is a light at the end of the tunnel soon. skinnylew, it's good to hear you are recovering. Having been bed ridden for a fraction of the time (around a month) previously, I can get that boredom can set in very easily. It's good to see you are back on here. Hopefully the car content and TV series to watch are keeping you sorted out, as well as the discovery of things. adam73bgt (engages secondhand car mode), my dad has an A6 estate if you are interested, or the Mondeo. As for me, not much has happened. It's wet and miserable. It did not stop me for cracking on with fixing the iffy handbrake on the 325d. Someone prior to me had changed the rear shoes but bent one of the rear backing plates upon putting the new brake shoes in, so it rendered the lot semi unusable. I bought some bits a while back, and I fixed it this week. A little like HoTWire, Facebook reminded me of a cheaper time as well. 17 years ago to be exact. It reminded me of a MkIV XR3i bought for £350 with what was definitely a kosher MOT. The paintwork was awful and we resprayed it so it was not quite as bad. I don't remember the tiger striping being on the bonnet once it cured, but we were stingy with how much paint we bought, which showed on the car. However, the car didn't look as awful as when we bought it. I'm sure it's the only car I've ever bought which looked like it was painted with Dulux emulsion on a breaking up roller!| Who would know that this car would be in our lives for the next 3 to 4 years.

ChasR your A6 and Mondeo are diesels aren't they? Not entirely ideal for my 10-15min commute unfortunately! I have been eyeing up an X308 XJR... But I must be getting overly cautious these days as I'm sure a few years ago I would have just gone out and bought the cheapest one I could find by now 😅

The past 4 months have been pretty quiet on the car front. A little bump in activity in the past week. First up, I had a sagging 528iX and didn't fancy paying someone else to sort it out. Gathered ITSA software and a relevant cable and narrowed the problem down to one knackered air spring. This was the best case scenario and an autodoc order with one hour effort has the family bus fighting fit again. The old spring really was shagged so I was happy it waited to calve until after we returned from our 3000km European roadtrip. It needs a quick clean and then off to Italy in 2 weeks during the Autumn Holidays. On the GR86 front, we have been expanding the Swiss owners group and we now have 70+ cars. A group of us went out for a 500km drive in the Black Forest last Saturday. It's definitely a car that owners can't help but modify. 9 cars on the drive (8 GRs and 1 BRZ) and only the BRZ was standard.

I've had a bit of a nightmare scenario, where the norovirus crept up on me and prevented me from boarding my flight to San Francisco, so my holiday was ruined. No way I was doing an 11 hour flight with my head in a bag whilst also on the can... Thankfully it was just me who was going, so it wasn't a problem for anyone else. As a boost 2 of my mates have cheered me by saying we'll arrange something for next year. Had some weight loss though! (try not to do it this way...)
I have therefore spent the latter half of this week by doing all the little jobs around the house that I've been meaning to do for months. This will give me more time to do Midas stuff. My friend has already booked time to complete the wiring for me (Storing his Volvo for him has its benefits).
I also have the delights of a new job next week, my first in almost 10 years, so will need to put my mind to training etc. Busy times!

The A6 is a 2.0 PD lump, with the Mondeo being a PSA 2.0 DW10 HDI unit. The Saab is a petrol, but probably not the bodystyle you want. The price however wouldn't be far off what your Almera cost however . I'm going to be honest. It's cool having the R230 Merc, but Jesus, it's a pricey beast to own, even compared to the M3!

Top photo, taken by my dad at Brands Hatch in 1966, when he would have been 22. Bottom photo, taken at the Goodwood Revival a few weeks ago by my 19 yo daughter on b&w film, 1970s Canon A1 that had belonged to my dad. (She printed it too)

Nice to see everyone cracking on with stuff, don't know where this year has gone and I certainly haven't achieved as much as I would have liked! I don't use the forum as much as I used too as its seems hard work now, have some screen shots from my mobile, huge adverts, ghosting at the top of the page makes it almost unusable, whats gone wrong?? is it me??
