The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. On that note if I try to fix this coolant one more time and fail I’ll be sectioned. The car in question is a Land Rover Ninety with a Discovery 200Tdi. I’ve recently replaced the timing belt, fuel pump was slightly out so reset that then reassembled everything with new gaskets, to be treated with a leak from the timing cover drain hole after a few seconds of starting up. So after a few days of crying I stripped it all down and used fresh gaskets plus some sealant, reassembled it all to be greeted with the same leak. Here’s some photos after stripping it for a third time, all the gaskets look perfect to my untrained eye? Reading online people mention core plugs leaking but I can’t see one? Any help is really appreciated, Thanks Josh

I tried to upload a video but for some reason it disappears here’s some stills of the leak, its definitely from the drain hole if I put my finger over the hole the leak stops. Thanks once again

If you haven't done the P gasket i would be looking at that, when you remove the water pump bolts it also relieves tension on the P gasket at the back of the casing, the gasket will leak down the back of the casing.

Cheers Dog, I was looking at that before but I just can’t work out how the leak would go from the back of the casing to inside of it? I’ll order a gasket set for it though and give it a go.

Yeah been subscribed to him for a few years sadly no videos from him on this subject. trailfitters videos linked above are good watch’s, covers the 200tdi a bit more then Britanica, just waiting for an entire 200tdi gasket set to turn up. I wish I could stick my endoscope up the drain plug while it’s running so I can see where it’s coming from

For anyone interested there’s been a plot twist. While in bed yesterday I had an epiphany, maybe it’s not coolant leaking from the timing case… It’s bloody diesel 🤦🏻♂️ (Before I’m judged harshly, underneath the Landrover is like the exclusion zone around Chernobyl from years of oil, diesel and coolant leaks and I have a year round blocked nose from working outdoors😂) So I think it’s going to require my fuel injection pump to be sent off for refurbishment? As I’m guessing an oring or something has failed inside? Unless anyone can think of another reason diesels spewing out? Thanks Josh

shaft seal on the input of the pump, will be a seal much like any driveshaft etc.
you can get a full seal kit for about £10-15
I found a pretty good video covering it, you may even be able to do it on the vehicle, if yo do remove the pump make sure you mark the pumps position in the slots.

Cheers Welsh pug I’ll give that video a watch when I get a chance. I saw the seal kits on eBay, I was watching a video last night and he started pulling a DTI gauge out and I thought I’d rather send it off to be refurbished

So an update final managed to strip it all back down and the injection pump is cracked I'm guessing it’s not worth me replacing the seal and seeing if it stops the leak? I'm also guessing most place won’t accept the pump for a refurb so it’s effectively scrap. Will any 200 tdi pump work with this (defender or disco) as I can’t find any identification number where they normally are. The only number on it is one of my dads friends strips landys so I’m hoping he’ll have a spare pump as with out a unit to exchange it it’s going to cost 1k thanks for any help

I'd call up Andy Hadley in Southam, and say that I sent you. He may have spare 200Tdi pumps, but he should be able to help with your query

Cheers mate I’ve had a decent quote from diesel Bob to send my pump to him and he’ll rebuild it into a spare casing 👍

Damn, that's a tough break with the cracked pump. Hope the rebuild sorts it.
