HI all picked up a 2007 Pt Cruiser a few weeks back Shes a 2.2 merc diesel with 90 odd thousand miles. She was in a pretty sorry state, filthy interior, oil in the coolant,no handbrake, serious knocking from the front suspension and exhaust but I managed to drive her home 50 miles. The handbrake was a nightmare to sort, on the passenger side everything was missing and the rear brake shoe / caliper carrier was badly damaged, rear hub damaged and abs sensor destroyed. It took me two weeks before I found a scapper in Durham breaking one with all the bits I needed and for a sensible price. It took me an hour or so to rebuild everything in the hub but then I hit a snag as the handbrake lever it pretensioned and contains the auto adjuster mechanism for the cables. Resetting this and connecting the cables was a complete pain and took forever. Anyways, handbrake is now done and she's on the road. I have the new front roll bar bushes and drop links here to fit when it stops raining, the exhaust needs new mounts and aligning properly. Not yet worked out where the oil in the water is coming from, I think its from a previous issue thats been sorted. She goes pretty well as she's 150bhp and is averaging 42mpg. Cheers - mike

Hi all Got a few hours on the cruiser on Sunday. The front drop links have been knocking really badly.. Got them stripped and the passenger side was the original with a bush missing and the drivers side was a replacement but also with a bush missing. It looks like someone has had them apart and strug9to get them back together so left out a bush to make it easier to get them back together. New ones are in, next job is an upper engine mount and to stop the rear silencer hitting the tow bar. Cheers Mike

I recently did the same job on the bosses 2007 Cruiser. I had a set of Energy Suspension links left over from a bush kit I bought for a previous Cruiser so I used them, they are polyurethane rather than the harder white (nylon ?) bushes. Interestingly the originals were fitted with the bolt from the top and nut on the bottom, so I fitted them the same way, although the manual shows them fitted the same as yours. BTW In case you don't have it, I have a pdf copy of the Chrysler workshop manual. Let me know if you want a copy

Hi all I had a bit of a nightmare on this on Friday as I broke down!. On Thursday I started the service by changing the fuel filter. The supplier sent me one made by ASHIKA an unknown chinnese brand. Anyways I fitted it and initially all was good. Went out on Friday and 3 miles later the filter parted company with the housing, diesel everywhere and stuck at the side of the road so not ideal. I ordered a crossland filter from ecp and fitted it on Saturday am and she's been fine since. spent a couple of hours on the cruiser today, the top engine mount / stabiliser has been making some awful noises since I got the car. I could move the engine back and forward about 20mm. I got the mount out and the centre part just fell out so it was well over due for replacement. Its a bit of a pig to get in and out as the air con pipes are in the way so took a while to get done. Next job is to get to the bottom of where its coolant keeps disappearing to. There was quite a lot of oil contamination in the header tank when I got the car but I think that's from a previous oil cooler failure. I have made a cooling system pressure tester so that I can pressurise the system and check for leaks. I think the header tank may be leaking and maybe the heater matrix. It never ends! cheers - mike

hi all
I'm a bit lost on this one at the moment. She keeps pressurising the fuel filter and randomly blowing the top off.
I changed the filter a few weeks back and replaced it with a chinese one which lasted 10 miles before it popped. I then replaced that one with a crossland filter which has lasted around 250 miles until popping earlier today. I can't get a replacement until Weds so she's stuck until then.
From looking at the manual I cant see why it should have excess pressure in the low pressure part of the system. There's a low pressure pump in the tank which sends fuel up to the filter and then onto the pump, there should not be any high pressure getting to the filter. I'm wondering if the high pressure pump is bleeding pressure backwards towards the fuel filter.
Any ideas?
Cheers - mike

hi all,
I got a few hours to work on this earlier today.
When I broke down I just left the car parked around 500 yards away. A note had been left on the car to say move it or the council would be asked to take it away.
Anyways, I went though the low pressure side to identify what was a miss. Firstly, the o rings on the filter don't appear to be compatible with diesel, both having swollen and gone soft so I replaced them with some known diesel compatible ones. I checked the output pressure from the tank lift pump and its around 42psi which is pretty high, more like what I would expect from a petrol fuel injection pump but I cant find a manufacturers spec to check it against.
For now I have put it back together with new o rings and will see how it goes.
cheers - mike

I have a vague recollection of 43.5psi, but I'm possibly mixing it up with the diesel Juke I had
