Hello people,
On the look out for a breakdown / recovery that will get me home if the issue can’t be resolved at the road side.
Obviously there are the well known RAC, AA and Green Flag options.
However, looking for recommendations around the East London area please.
Do you know a good, reputable company?
Many thanks,
Tony

I've been with Footman James for insurance and Britannia Rescue for recovery... they utilise local garages (quickest I've had was 7 minutes from call to have someone out to me).
I've had Lantern come out and recover me and the driver had a MK3 Zodiac... he said he's even with them!

I’ve just terminated my rac cover Unfortunately a third party they arranged to collect my daily driver merc turned up in an old sprinter truck clearly not fit for purpose and then wrenched my car on from around the front track control arm I wasn’t happy , and then he had the audacity to moan how far I lived out in the sticks!! I’ve spoken to the rac via email The reply was “no proof the truck wasn’t up to spec for my car and again no proof it was incorrectly lifted and basically case closed So my £56 a month is basically closed , don’t use them that’s my advice

We have Auto Aid. They do now have an excess to be paid on a breakdown. Funniest one was the guy that came out to the Mk3 Golf. Lifted the bonnet and he said " I don't have much experience of these" I think he meant that he couldn't plug it in to find the problem.

I’ve just terminated my rac cover So my £56 a month is basically closed , don’t use them that’s my advice I would have dropped them long ago at that sort of price. My most recent renewal was £80 for the year, with an extra two months in the price so they didn't have to discount it. I just have recovery, I don't have home assistance. I've only called the RAC out twice, the first time the guy who attended was into older cars and was very helpful. The most recent time was when a suspension arm was about to collapse on the modern, but that snippet didn't get passed on so I waited ages to get a phone call from someone in a van who was on their way to me, even though I'd already said it would need recovery. A few more hours for recovery, but they did turn up. The arm snapped as it was coming off the truck, and it was fortunate that my neighbour was around to loan a wheel skate. Lack of comms was the main problem, but I complained about having to do it all on line to one of their sellers at a car show, and he gave me the number to call if I need to call them out again. Both times, there was no problem taking it to my shed rather than my home address or some random garage. On the latter call, the guy had been told to take it back to his depot (40 miles away) and then sort it out in the morning, but as my shed was only a mile from where I broke down, I persuaded him it was much quicker to take it straight there. I look around each time the renewal comes through, maybe I'll try one of the others next time.

I've heard nothing but bad about the RAC from people with older / modified cars. Also yank cars can be a problem because they have (mayde had) a rigourouosly enforced maximum length which is a non-starter for a yank car.
I get free breakdown with my insurance through Peter James. Its branded "DAS Auto Service" but its the AA.
I have to say they have been brilliant. They have been pretty prompt and have been professional and helpful. I even had one patrol turn up in 15 minutes. I said "I am sure the fuel pump has failed I will need a tow" and he managed to pursuade the car into life again. "I have a couple of 1930s motorbikes and used to have a vintage era Ford" he said.
I had one bad experence with them where the tow truck took nearly 2 hours to get to me. But on balance I am happy with the AA.
My mum had the breakdown cover with her AXA car insurance and I had a problem with her car not far out of London and I needed to be recovered to Leicester and they said "maximum tow home is 25 miles" so we got stuck with a £345 towing charge! So check all the small print on these cheaper / 3rd party things.
