Ok so its probably a really easy answer to the question if you've done it before. But in 30 years on tinkering its something ive never even had to think about. How do i know what plug lead goes to what plug? 4 cylinder mgb

You need to find the firing order and then observe which way the distributor rotates, take the spark plug out of cyl 1 and identify when it is on the compression stroke, when you have found this stop it when the piston is at the top of the compression stroke, remove the distributor cap, the rotor arm will now be pointing at the position for lead no1, follow round the distributor cap in the direction of rotation placing the leads in the firing order.

The firing order should be 1342 - there are a few pictures of what connection on the cap links to what plug but as Kevin has said, you can work it out if you ever get caught out.
