I need to change the rear engine mount on the 405, and I'm currently away from home and only have basic tools. It's this one in the pic the 70mm one. I've ordered a replacement (bush only) The question is can I replace it in situ with no press get some freeze spray and cool ot down and knock it in? Or do I need to drive home gently next week and do it in the garage with the press off the car? Pic of the car in question...

A bit of googling suggests I'm gonna need to press it in and I'm not paying 55 quid for a powerflex. The 65mm bush is 36 quid and the 70mm (that I have) is 55. I'll just have to deal with the vibration in the gear lever at low rpms on my ride home.

Well I'm not an expert on those models but I have two 106 with the MA/TU drivetrain. Your engine mount would be more work to do it on your back in situ, than it would be to take it off and do it correctly. Just take it easy on the ride home and let us know you arrived safely! Enjoy the Pug!

it is possible without a press, bush in the freezer a few days and casting warmed up, but a press makes it far easier.
it wont do any harm being a bit tired other than wearing out the other two mounts, which are probably already tired by now anyway.

As said, press is really the only real faff free method of doing it.
PowerFlex items on 306 GTI-6s, as well as 205s, did improve the location of the engine, which in turn improved throttle response (no wobbly engine) and gearchanges, but at the expense of further NVH in the cabin ; keys if in a bunch could rattle at idle for example. Some found it fine, others hated it.
I know with a Group N mount on my 205 GTi, the dash used to vibrate at idle, and in some parts of the rpm range. The car drove far nicer for it other than the NVH. My dad thought the car had broken whenever he had to borrow it. Rubber may well be the better option as long as it lasts.
We changed the one in the 205 as it fell apart after 2 years of it being installed ; it was a pattern rubber bush which was fitted.

I've got the vibra technics solid rubber bush, I'm hoping that will provide a nice mid ground between tight gear changes and cabin vibration. But it's a 30 year old Peugeot all of the trim rattles anyway 😂

You will not like that on a diesel engine...
A standard one rotated 90 degrees would reduce the movement without rattling all the plastica and making the mirrors vibrate..

I did think about rotating a std one 90* but I fancied an upgrade and some dude piggy power on YouTube was singing the praises of the powerflex so I assumed rubber wouldn't be quite as extreme as PU while still improving feel. Is it gonna be bad even though its rubber and not PU?

Well curse word. I guess I'd better return it in favour of a OE one which I will turn 90*
Thanks for the prior warning other wise I'd be 35 quid out of pocket and maybe minus a few fillings.
