I started to build a low budget HotRod and try to get it street legal in Germany. That´s not so easy. Please excuse my bad English, school is long ago... It depends on a 1980 Chevrolet LUV / Isuzu KB / Bedford KB that I found at a German yunk yard. It was cheap, but many parts where missing. Thr frame is good, the rest VERRY rotten. Good basis for the project. Nobody would restore it also it´s very rare in Germany. BTW: Does somebody know experts für Bedford KB in the UK? I have some questions... My plan: I will take the front from a Framo V901/2, a small truck from the GDR But that´s a long way. For the back I organized a fire department trailer from the former GDR. I like it, because the doors look like doors from a refrigerator The missing windshield is no problem. I wanted to get an older look, so I decided to build a split window. So I got some rotten parts from VW T2 buses. The roof must be much rounder, so I took the roof of the Framo I think I´m on a good way - for a photo I added the front, not yet welded on the car: You can read the hole story at my German blog www.fusselblog.de/category/coldrod/

I like details. The rear doors will get small windows. To support the refrigerator look I organized badges from old BOSCH refrigerators. I wanted rims that don't´t look like offroad wheels, what was not so easy because I wanted 7J15 and the LUV has the bolt circle most used by offroad vehicles. I found rims from SsanYong Korrando. But it was impossible to find hub caps that fit to the rims. But I found cheap metal bowls in the right dimension.I just had to bend the edge. With cheap coins from temu I think they look very cool

This is going to be one interesting build! Nice choice of components. What's the plans in the engine department?

This is going to be one interesting build! Nice choice of components. What's the plans in the engine department? Unfortunately, I need an engine with a catalytic converter because otherwise I'm not allowed to drive in the German city where I live. There is an exemption for classic cars if they are in their original condition. But the ColdRod will be a far away from that. Normally I would have to do a very expensive emissions test with an engine from another car to get the emission class into my documents. But I argue like this: The Chevy LUV was built by Isuzu and has a rigid frame. The Opel Frontera A was also made by Isuzu and has a rigid frame. I hope to avoid the emissions test this way. So I use an engine that was also available in the Opel Frotera. The engine is called C20NE, 2.0l, 115hp and it was also available in the Opel Omega A with 2WD transmission and controlled catalytic converter. I hope that the brakes from the Opel Frontera fit the Cevy LUV, then the German TÜV will accept it. I haven't found a cardan shaft yet for the engine and I don't yet know whether I can use it from the Omega. But I hope I don't have to have a new one made.

There are a lot of problems getting the car street legally in Germany. Example steering wheel: An American Grant steering wheel was installed when purchased. There are no German documents for this steering wheel. But I want a steering wheel that looks like a car from the 50s. I still have a Petri steering wheel for the VW Beetle / Karmann Ghia from the 70s that the German TÜV would accept. So I'll probably convert the steering column to a VW Beetle...

Looks like a previous owner worked in a bottle opener factory... The bottle openers are from me. I had allready build a HotRod out of a Framo V901/2. This was the car I started with: I startet to build withoutbthinking to get it street legal and that was the result: It could not drive and I showed it on different shows. I had hard discussions with the German TÜV how to get it street legal and there was no chance. So I take parts of the first build and started again, because I don´t want a car, that only can be moved with a trailer... I learned much by the first build and the other cars, that I build inbetween. These cars I also build are meanwhile street legal in Germany:
