The coolant sensor in the Rover V8 manifold is 5/8 UNF, the coolant sensor I must fit is 3/8 NPT. I have an adaptor, but the actual sensor part is completely enclosed by the adaptor and the sensor has a tapered thread thread which doesn't engage very far into the adaptor either. What are my chances of re-tapping the 5/8 UNF hole to 3/8 NPT, they seem very close in actual hole size. Or will it read accurately while enclosed?

I've looked at a thread repair kit for 3/8 NPT to change the thread and it's not cheap, £130+ !

Same too, 3/8 NPT just a little larger. I reckon if you could lay hands on a tap you could just run it through to open it out.
Will work as it is but likely be a bit slow to respond to change.

Same threads per inch. Wretched iPhone autoscramble!

I was thinking of using an insert to convert from UNF to NPT, but having spent the evening on T'web, I'm scared!
With talk of reamers and tapers and the dire results that happen if you tap too far, the thought of doing this to my brand new Edlebrock manifold imported from the USA, feels me with dread!

The other path is that almost certainly there is a temperature sensor out there with the right 5/8” UNF thread, the right characteristic curve and maybe even the right shaped plug.
Finding it though…..🤔

Thanks for the reply.
I put on my big boy pants and drilled a hole in the manifold. Can't say if I've been successful yet still waiting for the 3/8 NPT tap to arrive, think it's got lost in the post, so I may have just made an a hole in a brand new Edlbrock manifold for nothing!
