I have removed the standard fuel rail on my volvo b230 engine, it now has an external fuel pressure reg. I piped the reg up the wrong way as there was no diagram with it, and i found that one of the injectors was gushing fuel into no.2 cylinder. So i worked out what was wrong after trying other injectors. Now, if you over pressurise injectors, does it damage them, or will they be ok? Will it just bypass the solinoid.
If they seem ok now, could they fail shortly as ive damaged them? they are volvo t5 injectors, 0280-155-766 thanks.

The Bosch 044 pump is of positive displacement and has a relief valve fitted internally that limits maximum pressure to 9 bar. The injectors should hold this pressure with no fuel passing unless defective. If the connections to the regulator were reversed the fuel would I think push passed the valve plate and fuel would return to the tank, either way 9 bar maximum. Hope this helps.

hi thanks that does help alot!
I forgot to say the b230 is in a bmw e36, i think that is a 044 pump ? I had replaced the baskets on the injectors and the seals. One of the baskets i could not get out so i drilled it, but 100% didnt damage the housing. I don't know if it is that one, but plan tomorrow is to goto the car and put the injectors back on, then put the fuel rail the right way, and see if the fuel spurts out the injectors with them out of the manifold.

I remember in the 1990's messing with making adjustable fuel pressure regulators by welding in a bolt to push down on the spring to alter the pressure and a micro switch on the throttle to ground the injectors so they are open full duty cycle. To be honest it made little or no difference, the manufacturers got it correct at the start, however it's good fun to have a mess around to see what you can do like squashing the pressure regulator in the vice to increase spring tension and up the pressure.
